IMO 'New' Forum is a step backwards

IMO some things new are not always better. E.g. the 'New' forum has two vertical scroll bars, one for the forum portlet and one for the page of the Toplace Forum. That is a pain and forces one to double scroll, which is a waste of time/effort.

Having the latest posts first instead of at the end will please some, but that is a matter of opinion, since others will want it to read like a book, i.e. beginning to end.

IMO this forum's style and ease of use are still far superior to the 'New' forum. My vote (if there is a vote) is to make this 'classic' forum the main one and the 'New' forum another option for those who prefer that style. This forum has withstood the test of time, if the other style is better it will supplant this one as the one most used.

I, for one, find nothing in the 'New' forum that is better than this one.

P.S. The double scrolling problem is not necessarily the problem of the 'New' forum per se, the 'classic' forum had that too when it was encapsulated in the "toplace.us" portal. For those of us who have used computers for decades and have wrecked our wrists w/the mice and various HIDs [human interface devices - who makes up these silly acronyms ;>) ?] the double scrolling is more than an annoyance, it is s/t to avoid for health reasons.

I see them in the correct order.

IMO, the new forum is much better. It's easier to search and the messages format much better. To each his own, I guess.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the OLD forum rocks!!

Its like an old Nintendo game..one of the last of its kind..something a lot of us have grown to love..

Its easy, clear and has a no nonsense feeling about it.

I agree with Maxx and Sesster.    And several of us have already made the point about this in the past and expressed our views when a similar forum like the new one was tried for a select Toplace members.   The 'technical' and 'categorized' forums like the new one are all over the internet and they don't entice conversations like here in which lots of impulsive information become available in a natural way.

Also, John USA is always using the 'research' mantra (?) to justify a boring categorized forum but the truth is that in this hairwearing venture, things are always evolving and the same questions quickly end up being answered in a different manner with time and with some different twists and  this is what this actual forum has always allowed.  Lot of people give the content of this forum a great value and so why should a different forum be created, and why even 2 forums ?  It only divides the crowd and the result are less posts in both!

I don't mind the new format, but after I get done reading the new forum, I head over to the classic forum and it just "feels" better. Kind of like home cookin'. :)

My Cave or YOUR cave :)

September 23 2008, 12:18 PM

Guess I'm just sorta a neaderthal type of
guy ... pre-historic ... rubbing sticks to
make a fire ...

And since the experienced guys who have s
omething to offer are staying in this cave ...

Well .. this is where the Masterdon over
Rice with fermented Chilli Peppers is located ...

(Don't tell me my spelling sucks ...
Wish this forum had a spell checker )

P.S. I see John's point .. the other forum
is located, most likely, on their own server ..
and they have control ...

This forum .. like the popular YahooGroups ..
well .. one day they can pull the plug ..
and forum .. forums ... are gone and there's
no one to even contact ..

Hope this forum is backed up to the hilt !

The old forum is easier to read and converse, but how much "gold mine" information is lost because you can't search posts easily? I know Snipe posted a way around this, but IMO it would be great if they could transfer the old info to the new board, and everyone would just have to get used to it.

The new board is not BAD, you just aren't used to looking at it.

I also don't care anymore which board we use. But lets all just agree on ONE board for all people. Then destroy the other one...
