My New Idea - hairpiece + transplant combo?

Hey guys,

My greatest concern with moving to a piece still lies with the undetectability of the hairline. It's just plain crucial for me, and the more I read about it, the less sure I feel that it's possible.

There's a hair transplant firm here in Canada called Hassan and Wong, they are very good at what they do, one of the most respected in the business. They have always told me that they could replenish my frontal/temporal areas, but they wouldn't have enough donor hair to take care of the top of my head as well, which is likely to continue to bald all the way to a NW6.

What if I asked them to do a transplant focusing only on the hairline, temples, and going as far back as possible, whilst still creating top quality density? And then, after that point, getting a partial piece to cover the top of the head?

That way, no hairline issues, and it would be easier to maintain (i assume no lifting, since that usually only occurs in the front, right?)

Anyone ever heard of this done by anyone else? Seem like a good idea? Would love feedback on this.

Thanks!!

Funny, I've had sort of a "research" night tonight, and read through most of this forum, especially the most recent stuff, didn't see anything of this nature. Can't find info on this idea in search either.

Would love feedback regardless.

That will work 100%.You have to know what you are doing and what is
best for you.A doctor wants cash and more cash.He will play games
with you to sell you what you dont need. You have to be firm.
Talk to at least 5 doctors.

awesome.

Makes me excited to hear someone confirm that this will work so well.

Avoid the fretting and worry over the hairline, get thick, full hair throughout. A great option for people willing to fork over stupid amounts of cash (yes, I'm stupid enough), and willing to go through both procedures!

Stupidity

Hey, I'm on the toplace forum, aren't I? No stupidity here, I'm an over-the-top researcher. With the hairpiece, I know I won't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money.

WIth surgery however, I'd rather pay more and get the best. It's my health, at that point.

I had a hairline transplant years ago and initially tried to place a piece directly behind it...it was just too difficult getting the piece right to the edge of where the transplants started (without having a gap or having some of the hairline smashed down by the adhesive, etc). All I can say to the procedure itself is that it was the worst mistake I've ever made...yes, the hairline looked natural but I now have tiny "dot" scars when I shave the top of my head...so I wouldn't be able to go with a shaved head look (even though it would most likely look bad on me anyway). I guess things have come a long way, so you may have a completely different experience, but it was very expensive and the recovery time and waiting for the plugs to grow in were also huge dissapointments for me.

I spoke with some of the top docs about doing this but none would commit to an expected density. For $15k in just the hairline I wanted a commitment of what to expect. My guess is that I'd be lucky to get a TL equivalent of 55% density which may be worth it in the future. I also discussed just building the temple area but once the anticipated lines were drawn it really didnt seem worth the pain and scarring. Unless your temples are completely gone the improvement seems slight and, if they are, it may take too many grafts to be worth it.

If you consider H&W in Canada speak directly to the docs. Their "consultant" is nothing but a salemsman, and a bad one at that. I caught him in so many lies it was laughable. He reminded me of the HCM guys.
