It would be interesting to know how he would respond to such a question. How much does this doctor actually know about causes, diagnosis and treatment of PMS or PMDD? In my experience, there are only a very small number of doctors who actually have done the research about these disorders, and who can thus effectively treat patients for their symptoms.
How did he diagnose you? Did he do a thorough medical examination or take a detailed history of your symptoms and health, or did he just go off your description upon consultation?
You can read more about underlying medical conditions as a cause for PMS/PMDD on my site, if you think this is a concern.
There are specific symptoms for each disorder and it would be easy to determine if indeed you have any such underlying illness, however, if as you say, you have been under considerable stress, you could probably safely assume that this is the primary cause for your symptoms (and it thus follows that Lupron is not the way to go here).
You might even want to consider printing some of the information on my site (with references to medical research) to show the doctor re. true causes, treatment etc., and ask him what his opinion is. My essay "PMS and PMDD - An Expose" (on the main page of my web site) would be good for this purpose.
How much do you know about Lupron? I have some sources for you if you're interested in doing some research on this medication.
Let me know.
