I have been doing some thinking about PMDD/PMS the last few days and have researched how doctor's treat it. I must say that I am confused and frustrated! I have suffered from depression in my past and the anti-depressants were a life saver! But PMS/PMDD is caused by hormones being at incorrect levels so why are doctor's treating with anti-depressants that treat seratonin levels? I just think society is treating the wrong illness. Depression and PMS/PMDD are different. You may feel depressed with both disorders but the underlying problem should be treated differently in my opinion. I am not a doctor but it doesn't make any sense to me. Does anyone else see what I am saying here? I just think doctors throw anti-depressants at any problem we have and I think the 'fix' in these cases are very temporary instead of long-term help.
