Severe pain with periods are not normal and can indicate medical problems such as the beginning of endometriosis or a host of other problems, and these do need medical treatment. As to diagnosing PMDD, I suggest you read my essay on my web site located at http://geocities.com/pmddandpms The diagnostic criteria is applicable to women of all nationalities and countries of origin, you could even approach your regular doctor with this information.
