I remember having mood swings as a teen and secretly feeling better when I got my period. I never made the conection until after I had my son at 26. That when every thing revealed itself. I went fron having periods 2 or 3 times a year to almost every month. I realised that a wasnt koo koo coco puffs. I just had a realy bad hormonal imbalance.

I am just recently taking this very seriously and getting help. Visiting this website is a start. I had my doctor prescribed me low hormone birth control. It makes sence that synthetic hormones might temporarily disable the hypothalamis or pubitory gland (whatever it is)from allowing my body to produce an unnessisary relese of hormones to trigger a period. I'm starting tomorrow and I will keep you updated.

I just dont want to emotionally abuse my husband anymore. He's my number one target becasue I think he's strong enough to take it and sometimes it's just becasue he's there. I forget that my son is also there when I lash out at his daddy and he has to hear and see it. He's only 2 years old and still a baby. AND VERY CUTE!!

I just want to say thank you for being a part of my support towards my impending recovery.

Please let me know what birth control your doctor put you on. It sounds like we may a have a similar situation, although I didn't experience PMDD until after I had my daugher 3 1/2 years ago at almost age 33. I really started noticing how horrible I was to my husband and my daughter. Not only mean, irritable feelings but also the depression. I tried natural remedies for almost and year and finally went to my doctor. She also prescribed a low dose birth control pill to start (yasmin). I will start it on Sunday. I am looking so forward to positive results. But if I don't see results after 3 months, I think I will try Lexapro (a SSRI). Even though I hate the thought of that, I have to do something to help with the "monster" I feel I have become. I am just not myself 7 days to 2 full weeks before my period. That's almost half my life I'm either ticked off or totally depressed. It's no way to live your life!! And if I have to take something to help, I will. I feel I gave the natural route a good try.
Keep me posted on your results and I will do the same.
Good luck!!!

My doctor prescibed me Aleese.I took my first one today. I predict that for the next 3 months I'm going to be at my worst until my body adjusts. I think during the adjustment time of birth control the hormone replacement adds to your natural hormones adding an extra over load. I believe thats why women with PMDD are sensitive to the pill becasue we are already producing too many hormones. when the body accepts the synthetic hormones then it wont produce the overload of our normal hormones and we can get back to normal. Its just the 3 months that we have to endure to get there.
Dont go off it. I'll take the same advice. We will be eachothers support. The other issue is the wieght gane. I can gain up to 20 pounds on the pill. I'm going on the atkins diet for the next 3 months.
Take care and keep me updated as much as possible towards your recovery.

Well, I'm starting my second month of Yasmin and now I have acne, headaches and noticed I've gained some weight. Last month I did have a good "emotional" month but the physical symptoms suck!
I will give it one or two more months and if I still have these symptoms, I'm going to try something else. I still wonder if the progestrone cream is the answer. I used it faithfully the month before I started the pill and noticed a big difference but brushed it off as one of my fluke months. I may try the progestrone cream again to see if I have a good month. I noticed my skin looked radiant, I had no headaches and didn't gain weight plus, my emotional state was pretty good! That may be the answer for me if Yasmin doesn't work out.
I also saw on Dr. Phil that progestrone suppositories were the answer??? That's another option too, I guess.
Let me know how your pill is working for you now.
Thanks! Talk soon.
