I have terrible PMDD. One of my symptoms is vomitting about a week before I get my period. I was reading many posts here and I can relate to the up and down mood swings and such but I didn't see anyone talk about vomitting. I just switched doctors and she said that sometimes you may get sick and it is like morning sickness. She is doing some tests to make sure it is nothing else. Anyone have a similar situation. I started taking Zoloft about 6 months ago and that took care of it but about 2 months ago it started again. My new dr has switched me to Sarafem. Not sure if it is a good thing or not. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I get "morning sickness" sometimes as a symptom. Not every month but at least four or five times a year I'll get up and vomit every morning for two or three days before my period starts and two or three days into it. This is a relatively new developement in my life. Like maybe for the last two years. (I've had PMDD for 26 years since the day I turned 12 and got my first period except for when the Prozac was working or when I was following strict dietary/lifestyle guidelines)

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I really thought I was going crazy. People would look at me like it was all in my head and I was starting to think it was. My doctor (new dr. because my old doctor did everything but laugh at me) said that with PMDD sometimes we get symptoms of pregnancy. I hope my new med will take care of it. If not, well at least I know I am not alone. Thank you again

I do experience nausea and heightened sense of smell. It is like being pregnant but I know I am not. It's almost like my body is going through first trimester of pregnancy especially w/ smells and nausea. I keep smelling things and feel like I have to throw up, but everyone around me is looking at me like I'm insane and they don't smell it.
I just read what Patti said about her doctor saying sometimes we experience symptoms of pregnancy... That is so true. That's amazing.

I am suprised; and relieved. I have been vomiting - just one or two mouthfuls at a time, nothing more and thought that it was to do with iriitable bowel or something. I live in the United Kingdom and we are a little reserved about these things. I am trying to research PMDD but this syndrone/illness/occurrence whatever it is but had never come across nausea before.

Well yes but it has got loads better recently. The Doc's identified Irritable Bowel years ago and I was almost constantly bloated. Then I stopped eating wheat for about three years and lost two inches off my waist within a week!!! (just the bloating doing down).
Sadly it came back again about a year ago and I was referred to a consultant gastroenerologist. Tests were run/blood was taken/barium swallowed - the whole thing and all was negative. But I was throwing up small amounts intermittently, was bloated, swollen, was sore all the time and then shame of all shames I had a couple of incontinent episodes too which really capped it off. I was scared to be too far from a toilet after that.
The PMDD was and always had been really bad (since I started my periods) and finally I became full on depressed/anxious. At my worst I was displaying agoraphobia and was suicidal. I never want to be there again.
So I have had the last 10 months in psychotherapy and been on Effexor which the gastroenerologist said would help the IBS (Doc's using antidepressants for IBS too!). I also can take Lorazepam when the anxiety hits.
The psychotherapy has massively helped my Irritable bowel. I get sore and swollen occasionally and usually just before my period. But I can eat whatever I like now and have no further incontinence/vomiting. Some pretty heavy stresses I had as a child had never been resolved so now that I have some more insight and better coping mechanisms I would say I don't have a problem with it any more.
I just wish that the same was true for the PMDD but no matter how much we go round and round the cognitive behavioural things just don't seem to break through that big black cloud that comes on once a month.
I'm, sorry you have Irritable Bowel - I think probably the brain chemicals and hormones affect that too, along with our mental health.
Oh and just finally because I know this has been a bit of a big reply I have just switched onto Prozac which I was taking for PMDD before I got really sick.
Best Regards

Wow! I hate to hear of all your problems with IBS but it is nice to hear that I am not alone! Us women have so much to be thankful don't we?? IBS affects mainly women as does PMS/PMDD and depression. My IBS has been stable but only with the help of lots of zelnorm and colace!! I quit my zoloft and trazadone because I was feeling more depressed. So far so good! But I start a new job Monday so we will see how I do. Thanks for the reply!!
