Hi

I suffer from severe pmdd and have not yet found a cure. I haven't tried antidepressants yet, for I don't think they are offer a long-term solution.

My worst pmdd-day is usually the day before my period starts. My period is pretty regular, so it's possible for me to know beforehand, when the worst day might be. I try to relax and avoid stress, but so far, I'm not too good at it.

Last time my period came a day too early and the day before was pretty bad. I got really depressed and in the end, during a small argument with my boyfriend, I felt so worthless, that I cut myself in the arm with a knife that happened to lie on the table before me. The cut was pretty deep and I fainted and was totally shocked.

I'm still really shaken about what I did...

I've found that my worst day is one or two days before I start my period. And you aren't alone in doing drastic things... I haven't cut myself in a while but I have thrown glasses on the floor, curled up in the closet scratching myself over and over, and other stuff that I'm not remembering right now but I'm sure DH-to-be could rattle off a few.

But... yeah. I'm new too but welcome. Hopefully we'll both find some answers.

I didn't see a way to edit posts, otherwise I'd have added this to what I just said.

But if the cut is deep enough to require medical attention then I suggest you get it right away. If it doesn't then just do what you'd normally do for a cut-- keep it clean, bandaged, etc. I know you might think you're a crazy person for having done it. But what's done is done, you can't go back and change it, so you should take care of yourself now. You are worth it.

If you're worried about a scar after it's healed up, I suggest cocoa butter or vitamin E. You can get either the serum or the caplets. If you get the caplets just break them open and rub the goo on the scar. But don't do this until it's healed.

Thanks for your post, Navi.

The cut is healing well, though I didn't go the the doctor (I would have had to wait for about 3-5 hours, which didn't appeal to me much...).

I'll try the vitamin E -thing, sounds like a good idea. I've been worrying a bit about the scar and what people might think. Although, I can always say that the cat did it .

The funny thing is, I didn't have any pmdd a month ago. I have no idea why. I just felt really good. I took some vitamins and some magnesium for a while, maybe that helped? Or maybe I just managed to avoid stress? I'm taking the magnesium again, just to see whether it's helping any.

The only problem is, that I'm now much more scared of my pmdd-depression and of what I might do during that phase than I was before. And much more scared of sharp knives... .
Which means more stressful feelings.
