Hello. I am now 49 and have been PMDD free for 2 years. This followed many years of going from Dr. to Dr. anti-depressant to anti-depressant, trial to trial, diet to diet - lifestyle change after change - you get the picture. I don't think anyone could have had a worse case. I feel lucky to even be alive.

I finally realilzed it was the increase in progestrone at the end of the menstrual cycle causing the depression. This came about as I hit pre-menopause and began taking estrogen and progestrone - estrogen 21 days, then progestrone 7 for my period. My PMDD symptoms increased 100%. One month I didn't take the progestrone and I was symptom free. Tried it again the next month - same thing. Took the progestrone next month and had full blown PMDD. I did this experiment enough times to KNOW.

Problem is, one can't take estrogen without progestrone due to many dangers, but I did for a year, completely PMDD free, but with much anxiety about the risks.

Finally I ended up at a newrologist's office who took care of the entire problem. The answer was Depakote which I take every day. If you do a web search about depakote, it doesn't say much about it's use for this purpose, but believe me, it works. For me. Has saved my life.

Hi, and welcome to the board.

Thank you for that very encouraging post. It is truly wonderful to read experiences of women who have actually conquered the "beast" otherwise known as PMDD. It is great that you have found a treatment which addressed your specific needs.

All the best,
Anthea
