French Twist Pony for waistlength or longer hair

Gather hair as you would for a ponytail

Using one finger of right hand as a hook, twist hair clockwise

Complete one full twist, 360 degrees

Gently pull up and towards the right, this is to position length into centre for pony (otherwise you end up with the pony on the left instead)

Position top of twist in centre by moving it with the finger hook

Insert clip.  The one shown is a good quality Ficcare knockoff in polished gold.  This type of clip provides the most secure hold.

Ta-da! (next three photos for different views)

Wow Martine, that looks gorgeous!

Is the Ficcare all you need to hold it?
I love the way you created so much height at the crown - when I do that (with a regular twist that is), I need several pins on top to prevent loose loops from forming there. Did you have a problem with that at all?

Cheers,
Madeleine

yes, yes, it's just held by that one clip

I wouldn't even think of using anything else because it would just unravel though it probably depends on the hair's texture/character.  I like truly dependable accessories.  I think a hairfork could work  (see Flaxen's recreation on the main page), or hairsticks, so could slides.  I've ordered a Ficcare Maximus clip and I'm hoping that will provide another option too.

HoneyMane's Partial Figure 8 look version....

August 14 2003, 5:20 AM

HoneyMane did a variation of Martine's style, by doing what looks like a partial Figure 8, and secured with a Evita Peroni hair clamp, similar to Ficcare Maximus. She graciously allowed me to post her style shots here. I believe she twisted the hair clockwise, brought it upward, then grabbed a portion lower with the right hand, twisted it, which forms the loop.

Secured with a clamp.

I'll try to add (another time) some step by steps of the twisting part to go with this.

Enjoy!
