Faked everyone out at the Ren Fair

I needed a good "Renaissance Fair" hairstyle. My mom got me this fantastic dress, and I wanted to go to the local fair in costume. Unfortunately, I cannot do any of the fancy frenchbraided hairstyles myself. So, I faked it ...

I love the look of the french braided crown, so this is what I did. I put my hair in a ponytail (not low, not high, kind of in the middle of the back of my head). I split the ponytail into two pieces and braided each piece. I looped the pieces over my head so that they overlapped over the top of my head from ear to ear, and I pinned it in place. I weaved some ribbon around the braids to hide the ends. And, then I pinned in some loose ribbons around the back to hide the ponytail.

You wouldn't believe the compliments I got! I wish I had gotten a picture. Everyone thought that I had this terrific "Ren Fair" style, and I TOTALLY FAKED IT!

How fun!

That sounds like something I could do!  I don't think I have the patience to try a real crown braid!  Wish you had been able to get a couple pictures...

Great idea!

Using your creativity to solve a hair styling problem! Beautifully done! Sounds like it turned out gorgeous! I hope you can try it again sometimes and take pictures. I am sure it would be very helpful to others that have trouble braiding!

How did you braid ribbon into it?

Just wondering. The style sounds great!

I didn't

July 21 2004, 11:35 AM

I didn't actually braid the ribbon into the style. After the style was complete, I wove the ribbon around the outside of the braid. Then, I tied some shorter ribbons onto bobby pins (about 8), and pinned them over the braid (so the ribbons hung over the braid) "for camoflauge."

Does this help? Man, I should have taken pictures.

The style you did is actually a "period" style in the sca.

If you are a member of livejournal, there is a post in my memories under hair for italian hair taping. It has some links. My livejournal id is blackvelvetclad

The style's real name

It's actually called a heidi braid. Very dutch peasant style. Obviously, heidi used it lol.
