Artsy scarf style

August 29 2006 at 3:19 PM

Well, I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures, but I'll do my best!

This is something I like to do with my hair when it's getting kind of dirty-looking, or just when I'm feeling particularly artsy. (such as now! Time for a wash after this!)

Okay, so, you'll need a scarf, or a piece of fabric at least 60 in. long for this to work. First I part my hair (center or side; doesn't matter) and then put my hair up in a bun in the middle of the back of my head; it'll stay longer if the bun sticks out a bit. Then I take my scarf and lay it across my head like a headband, making sure that the center of the scarf is in the center of my head. Then I wrap it around my head crossing it UNDER the bun. Next, bring the ends up around the bun and tie in a half-knot (like starting to tie your shoes) at the top of the bun. Then I just tuck the ends in amongst all the overlapping stuff at the bottom, and voila! It's kind of cool. It looks vaguely Grecian or Regency in style, and it's a lot more stylish-looking for greasy-hair days than a hat or a bandana!

27/28.5/30 (for now!) Type 1aFii, Fine, straight, medium brown

I've done that!

It's a great style. I used it for hiking and going to the State Fair to keep my scalp from getting burned, and to keep pollution out of my hair. I use an orange and maroon printed scarf with fringe at the ends, so it looks almost gypsy, really hippie. I would like to try it with a beaded black scarf and a simple black dress to look kind of art deco. Thanks for posting it! It makes me want to try it out more.

I tried it and took pics!

It's not REALLY a scarf (it's actually something that was once tied in a bow on a birthday present!) but I use it in my hair anyway! The only problem is that it is wirey so the back bit sticks out in a strange way. Here are the pics!

Wow, thanks everyone for sharing the idea and url and the pictures. This styles looks great. I've been trying to find something different to do with scarves in my hair, and now I have. Plus it looks so simple, quick, and easy. Can't wait to try this.

CWC as needed, usually 2x/ week.
Still experimenting with things (store bought and homemade), but Nature's Gate original formula shampoo & conditioner, and trying Ida's bars. Latest experiment is adding honey to the conditioner, and weaning myself off the brush. Will update this as I go!
