make some sort of bun without hair sticks? I am going to buy hairsticks soon, but until then, I don't know how to make proper, tangle free buns without them. Any ideas would be helpful!

...but it's not as convenient! You can do a braided bun and just hold it in place with a lot of hairpins or you can try an elastic band. I used to use a band for that, but the hold is a bit too hard on just one section of hair, and it always ended up pulling on it and giving me a headache.

I kept thinking, poor girl, she's gotta do her hair with a bandaid on her finger. You'd think one finger wouldn't make a difference, but you know it does. Thanks for posting this! I've been curious about how to do the sock bun too. Maybe I should surf around youtube to get some ideas. Thanks!

I tried both the braided bun and the sock bun, and the sock bun is a lot easier and convenient for me to make.

Thanks for the help guys :D I could never make proper buns before because as a kid my hair was always relatively short. The longest I had was an inch or two below my shoulders, so I didn't know how to do a lot of styles.
