Any tips for a 5 strand braid method?

Currenlty I can do a 5 strand braid when I pull my hair into a side ponytail but not behind my head. I just end up a tangled mess if I try.

Anyone know how to do this without tying myself in knots????

Wash Wednesday and Sunday with Lush shampoo bars. ACV rinse after every wash. Occasional conditioning treatment.

Next step is oil and shampoo til the shampoo is gone and then I'm gonna try water only.

I only comb my hair with a wooden comb or bristle brush
Trying to grow out my hair back to it's natural colour.

I know this problem (have it with any normal braid I do behind my back), I succeeded to avoid it by carefully seperating all strands down till the ends after each crossing. Sometimes I even have to hold all strands in one hand and carefully comb them with the other hand - but now it only happens any more when I don't braid patiently enough.

I don't know if that helps...

current routine: Wash every two days with organic shampoo and conditioner or with baking soda, jojoba oil on the ends. From time to time deep conditioning with egg, honey and jojoba oil.

For me it helps

to be sure that the hair is tangle free and there are no distractions. Then I carefully separate the strands and keep repeating the "over-and-under-and-over..." pattern out-loud while I do it.

I have been successful with five-stands this way (after some practice and a lot of patience). Oh, and I had practice before doing it on myself by putting five-strand braids into horse's manes.

Keep the rhyme in your head as you braid

keep the chant going so you don't loose focus.

Right over left, left over right, twist and drop. Repeat.

have you tried four strands? I think four strands are easier to do since you don't have to drop a piece and try and pick it back up.

I was just doing the five strand braid on my large mannequin head as a French braid and it's hard enough to do it on someone else let alone behind your head and not see what your doing. I think I managed it once but have no desire to do it again. I think it would be easier to find a friend, teach them how and have them braid it into your hair, lol!

I had a friend do my seven strand braid here a few years ago.

I want to share this photo of a girl with 5 into 10

I love this picture. A friend of mine did the braid but I don't know who the girl is.

Both of those are stunning

The girl with the 5 into 10 and yours! I've told my boyfriend that I'm going to teach him to do it. At the moment a 3 strand is still a little beyond him so we'll see how well that goes happy.gif
