How does this work?

I had a few questions about the swap. Two, really: first, can you swap opened product, and second, can you swap non-hair product. The reason is that my skin, which has always been sensitive, has been really, really finicky lately, and I have bought many, many bottle of many things that I only used either once, or a few times, before they irritated or burned my skin. However, they are not things that would burn normal people's skin (I mean, even the AO senstive skin cleanser irritated my skin.) I don't even know for sure that I would try to swap them--so far, my plan has been to find them other homes with family and friends. But I thought I would ask, because I will probably be buying more things that don't work and will need something to do with them (sigh.)

I think it's fine for now...

If it got to be where bunches of people were trying to swap non-hair things it might get problematic, but for now I don't have a problem with it if you're a regular here on the boards, which you are. Many people swap opened product, mostly for the same reasons as you want to, they just don't work for them. As to AO, if you are interested in haristicks, necklaces or earrings, I'm almost always in need of anything AO. happy.gif

Are you in need of AO skincare? Is anyone?

January 24 2009, 8:23 PM

Because I do have a bottle of Rose Mosqueta Moisturizing Cream (4 oz.) for dry skin that I used once and a bottle of Vegecol Facial Cleansing Lotion for Sensitive Skin (8 oz.) that I used, say four times. They cost about thirty new. I don't feel that they are really worth new hair sticks, though, since they are opened and a little used. Maybe one hairstick. They are both mostly full. I don't know how well the cleanser really cleans--it is quite mild, maybe too mild if you are prone to breaking out. It got very good reviews, which is why I bought it, and it seemed okay on day one, but then it wasn't. I read an article by a dermatologist that said a product might be okay once, but you can't really know if it is okay until you have used it a few days, so this was one of those things. The cream made my skin sting badly right away. I think my face dislikes a lot of botanical oils (even "soothing" ones), but I don't think it would bother most folks. It had a nice slip to it, too--not too hard to smooth in, not too much rubbing.

There are other things, but I may give them to my sister. The only other thing that I really want gone is a bottle of Twinlab Na-PCA moisturizer spray, the non-oily kind. Whoa, that was a bad idea--I knew an esthetician who loved it and I did not read the label. Acid and eucalyptus--not so great for ye old senstive skin. It is supposedly a "moisturizing" acid that occurs in your skin. It is not really worth trading by itself, but if someone wanted the AO, I could add the spray, too. I bought it at the co-op, but it has ethanol in it, which does not sound natural to me. The preservative is monolaurin or some such thing. It is the preservative found in mother's milk.

Blah. That's it! I doubt anyone need so many details--I guess I have never swapped anything before.

has a swap section. I've swapped many cosmetics there from skincare to haircare. Haven't had a problem with any of the ladies yet. I'm a makeup junkie and half the time when I swap, I throw in extra samples that I have laying around the house. I recommend you sign up... be warned though, its addicting reading everyones product reviews!

Re: How does this work?

I'm probably coming in late on this and you might have already swapped the items, but how about selling them in a yard sale or garage sale. I was surprised when someone told me that when they had a yard sale people actually bought the opened bottles of shampoo and shower gel.

My mom wants to have a garage sale, and I have set aside some stuff we never use, or stuff I only used once or twice for the garage sale. I figure I'll sell them for .25 cents or less. (If they ask if I'll take less I'll probably say okay.)

I also have sensitive skin, and it's gotten worse lately so I've gone through several tries.
