You've given me the clue to solve my kits transportation headache at each of my frequent moves .
Just buy a trailer, put on it a ISO 20ft container and fill it with plexiglass showcases full of kits.
Don't know though if SWMBO will like the idea

falconbbs,
You indeed have a very impressive collection.
I am wondering what your motivation is. I love to model, but DANG! I have never seen anybody
that was quite as obsessed as you (no offense intended). Are you trying to acquire a model of
every military vehicle since 1900 or something like that?
Thanks for sharing.

Are you sure thats enough?
For those that you did built, you should at least do a profile for each one eh....cant see
much from a distance.
Thats quite impressive nonetheless.

I'm 43 ish... Adopt me please , 30-ish is too young!!

Thanks for all the feedbacks and compliments! I'll try to response to some :
Erik, for a museum to be impressive, the owner has to build all the things displayed in the
museum by himself?. That's very unlikely for any museum anywhere in the world, and
my Military Models Museum is no exception. Great works are great works, we all can
admire them on their own capacity. It doesn't matter much who build them or who own them.
As for the question "where do I live or sleep", here's an older picture of my room :

[/img]
I work near my bed, see my LCD PC? I'm still using 266MHz CPU, 64MB RAM, 4.3 GB HD
with 52x32x52 CD/RW and a USB port for most of my works at home.
I built hundreds of models myself in the past, but they're ugly, so I'd rather have some
talented modelers build them for me instead. I still build some small ones some time.
I'm not trying "to acquire a model of every military vehicle since 1900 or something like
that", just "to acquire as much as I can afford"
I bought/order my showcases from many places. Recently I know from a local model
webboard that there's a stationery shop selling old teak showcases cheaply. I bought
6 of them (1.20m wide x 1.0 m high x 46cm deep 4-storey made of teak, aluminum and
glass, the top glass plate is 1/2" thick very rubust) for just $60 each. I once considered
using 20ft container to host my showcases, but it's impossible to move one onto
my backyard because of hindering wall and electirc wires. And 8x9x20' seems too small.
I'd rather have 40ft or double-deck ones instead.
I'm not a millionnaire, just a salary man. I work as government employee in a govt bank
and my salary is quite low by westernn standard. Nevertheless, apart from this collection
I still have some money left to patron 4 kids through World Vision Foundation of Thailand,
but I think 30-ish and 43-ish are just too old to be adopted. Sorry...

Unbelievable! That is quite a collection. Do you charge admission for tours? How long you
have been collecting?
Are the rifles you display the real thing or are they models as well? Hopefully they're real,
less the drooling I've done
over the M-16 is for nothing.

Hi Phaisal. Congrats on the new showroom. I think its great you have the interest in the
models and want to display. Nothing wrong with doing what you want to do. Im sure your
builders are happy getting the commision as well.
Is there a chance with bright sunshine where you are, it might fade the models through
all the glass? Maybe after a few years, you could have some very bleached models.
You might want to consider this and protect them now.

Ciao falconbbs,
That is a really impressive room and VERY impressive collection. To be honest,
I would have figured you for a very rich man, indeed.
----------------
My reply:
Many thanks for all kind comments since my previous reply!, as usual, I'll try to
response to all inquiries.
mojimbo, according to my purchase records, I have purchased 1,447 armors/figures/dio
materials, 340 warplanes and 91 warships. Some 300 of these are still unbuilt.
Alex, I used that very word 'obsession' to describe myself. But a friend at
igitaldioramas.com commented that it's more like a 'religion'
Cary, the admission is free. If you have a chance to visit Thailand, be my guest!
I've been collecting for some 40 years (on and off for years at a time. But some seven
years ago when I started building my website my obsession grew tremendously
as good feedbacks poured in. The Guns are BB gun, cannot have the
real things because they're illegal.
Frank, the models in the showroom are not subject to sunlight anytime of the day
except the light that passes through the transparent roof section. But from my
experience, even the models that are in the showcases outside my house which are
subject to sunlight a few hours a day don't have any problem concerning color fading,
as long as they're not made of papers.

I realise that this is a bit off topic but, can you still buy full scale models of firearms?
I used the SLR when I was in the army and I'd love to make a model of one for wall mounting.
btw have you thought any more about adopting me yet?
---------------
My reply :
Fullscale models of firearms are also illegal in Thailand. But just like other illegal items
such as porn VCD/DVD, as long as there's a demand, there sure be a supply. A few months
ago I got an M83, a chinese made M-16 variant BB electric airgun, with laser, flashlight and
crosshair in the monocular, completed with 7.2 V battery and charger. All for just 30 Euro.
I've already answered that 30-ish and 43-ish are just too old to be adopted! Sorry...

Im not sure if this was asked already but have you got specific modellers that you purchase
your models from or do you get them from all over?
We really need a display show room like that in NZ.....because if there was one, i would be
the first to buy the annual membership pass.
---------------
My reply :
I have two permanent modelers named "Art Instructor" and "Niphon" who've been
building to my order for 6 and 2 years respectively. "Art Instructor" has built 100+
dio's and 200+ armors while Niphon has built many big warplanes and warships.
There's also another visiting modeler named Chakraphad who's offered finished
models to me from time to time. And most recently, I've found finished dio's
on sale at a hobby shops and bought some. Will present them in my future pages.
This evening I'll present a new page with 3 new armors and 2 new dio's from
"Art Instructor" and next Monday I'll present a Famo w/ 88 mm Flak from Chakraphad
and several new dio's from a new modeler in yet another new page.
If you really need a display room like that in NZ, you can begin building one...

pursue them".

Many thanks for your kind feedbacks and comments, esp. from J-Hulk!
I'm a modeler turned collector. I built hundreds of models myself in the past. Of all 1800+ kits
bought, there're some 300 still unbuilt, some 100 lost/damaged, some 400+ built by "Art
Instructor" and some 200 built by other modelers. The remaining 800 I built myself but you
won't see much of them because they're ugly (many got repainted by "Art Instructor").
But great works are great works, we can admire them on their own capacity. It doesn't
matter much who build them or who own them.

Nice looking setup. Were is this at ,your home ? Are those display cases custom built ?
Looks like a professional job all the way around , must be expensive to have all that done
with what looks like top quality materials.
CFR
-------------
Thanks so much for additional feedbacks since my previous reply! they're more than
my expectation.
CFR, that's my mother home in Bangkok, I've been living for 30 years. Apart from my
mother and myself, there're my youngest brother, his wife and three sons. We also
have a housemaid and three dogs. Those display cases in my new showroom were
bought second-handed from a stationery store, I bought 6 of them for just $60 each
(it costed the store some $250 each ten years ago). They have thick teak frame, all
covered by aluminum plates. After some cleaning they look almost as good as new.
The new showroom was designed by my brother, it took 23 days to construct and it
set me back some $6,500 overall, not too expensive, huh?. I think in western countries,
the labor cost alone would have costed more than this amount already.

Model Maniac , If you had a contractor build the room for $6.5K then yes that is a good price.
I'm sure the materials allone would cost more than that here in the states , especially with the
cost of all of the sliding glass doors. Again , very nice.

Richard, the flight takes some 12-13 hours only and each year many Swedish come
for a vacation in Thailand. I hope to welcome you at my place some day...

Okay, I am just dumbfounded with what I see here and at your web site. I have to ask, how long has it
taken you to assemble (pun intended) this collection of models. That is absolutley amazing!

Those of you who have met me will know that it not often that I am lost for words...
I have around 100 ship models in glass cases around our home-- but in comparison i am
but a mere beginner--that collection is simply stupendous!!
I waltzed my way through a few pages of his web-site-- I shall have to take another bite
at it--I am suffering model-overload!!
Simply stunning--well done!

Model Maniac, you are the King.
What is your regular job? How do you find time to build all these models? How can you afford
to buy all these kits?
May I please come live at your house?
Excellent work. I am impressed.

nice sir, very nice
I am also interested, what kind of job provides the time and money necessary to pull this off.
(just the 1:350 Kuznetsov and 1:200? Sovremeny must have taken a lot of time!!!)

I would assume that the two layers of glass should diminish the effects somewhat.

The majority of hobby stores don?t have kits on that numbers! It is simply incredible how
you had the time and resources to pull this amazing collection together. And couldn?t think
of a nickname that fits you better.

My reply :
Thank you so much for your kind interest and feedbacks! I'm glad you like my collection.
I'll try to response to all inquiries here. I started building warplanes when I was a teenager,
that's some 40 years ago and I expanded my interest to cover warships and armors as well.
Some 6-7 years ago I began using modeling services from some talented modelers and
quitted modeling myself (I have no modeling talent at all). Currently, I have "Art Instructor"
as my armors & dio's modeler, I have "Niphon" as my warships & warplanes modeler.
Both have been permanent modelers of my website for some time. I also have "Chakraphad"
(Jakkraphad) as my visiting modeler who offers finished models for me from time to time
and I also buy finished dio's from a local hobby shop.
Seeing my collection, many people think that I'm rich but I'm not. I'm a salaryman working
as a govt employee in a govt bank. My salary is quite low by western standard, just
$1,500 a month. But the cost of living in Thailand is cheap and I live a single life. My
only extravacant spending is on models & modeling services and little else. Still a large
part of my savings has already been spent. But as someone pointed out that it's been
money well spent. All the kits (some 300) in the showroom are unbuilt, but they won't
last a lifetime, they all will be built in a few years only. "Art Instructor" builds 5-6 pieces
at a time which involves 6-8 kits and it usually takes him just a few weeks to finish them.
The decals may yellow quicker in the sunlight, but most of my showcases at the side
and back of my house are not directly subject to the sun. It may be an hour or two
per day that they're lighted by the sun. So that's not much of a problem. Showcases
in the showroom and in my bedroom are not subject to sunlight.

nice showroom..i like the skylight and clear glass panels. the submarine with interior..
is that an old revell/monogram kit?
with a showroom like that..all you need are tables, chairs and some friends seeping coffee
or tea talking about models all night long. i bet your next project will be the workshop close
to the showroom. that's a nice idea. thanks for sharing.

museum inside your home.
nice!!!
hope someday, my home will look like this...
----------------
Many thanks for your kind feedbacks and comments! I really appreciate them!
stainless, the submarine with interior is a Revell's SSBN Andrew Jackson 1:200,
I don't know whether it's an old kit or not, but I just got it a year or two ago.
My showroom is small, I'm afraid that apart from hosting display cases, there's
no more space to place tables/chairs inside. Anyway, on the entrance there's a
1x3 m raised wooden platform, and a workshop may be setup nearby.

HI MM!
I agree with the others; it's a nice Museum. I hope the afternoon sun does not hit the inside.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight might fade the paintwork or worse melt plastic.
Sigh, I hope to have a room like that of my own in the future. A lot of 1/72 kits would fit in it.
Bis

yes tables and chairs outside..a garden set for a cookout or coffee and tea. well a workshop
is a better idea. but then when friends are starting to hang-out your place..you need a cookout
set for that. next thing you'll know..you'll have a clubhouse/ bar and grille restaurant for
modellers in your area. thanks for sharing.
i remember in the early 70s..me and my friend built the USS Jefferson same as that...interior
and clear side panels to see the comparments inside. well that was long gone..and the paint
job was a mess. nice to see one again. thanks for sharing.

Huwaw! I'll take me 100 years to have that many kits in display. Very awesome MM! Wish I could
see your place someday.
---------------
My reply :
Bistro, the models in the showroom are not subject to sunlight anytime of the day, except the light
that passes through the transaparent section of the roof. But from my experience, sunlight doesn't
fade models' color or yellow your decals. Even decals of models kept indoor get yellower by
the course of time.
Angela, I'd be glad to welcome you at my house, Shonen and others too if you have a chance
to visit Bangkok.
Stainless, I've already announced an opening ceremony of my new showroom on 23rd of this month.
A dozen modelers have shown interest to join. "Art Instructor" will be around and I'm thinking of
having him paint my Panther 1:8 and Gepard 1:16 on 22nd and 23rd to show to the guests.

BTW, the SSBN Andrew Jackson 1:200 was released in 2002, so it should have better details than
any earlier subs showing interior.

Hey MM,
Is that in 1/32 or 1/48. I have the F-86 RTAF decals in 1/32 and also a nakajima Ki-43II Oscar for
the RTAF also in 1/32. I might build it in that scheme.
Great showroom and hopefully I get to visit that if ever I go to Thailand.
Cheers,

Hi Bossman,
That's 1/32 Hasegawa kit with Thai decals in box. I may buy another one with similar decals
(king cobra) from Chakraphad if he'll sell it.
Thanks and hope to welcome your someday soon...
Cheers!
