it's olive green I think, NOT drab, but green

I don't know what color the modeler used. But most Thai modelers I know use
industrial paints and mix them to get desired colors.

well mate, these look good... except for one! You have a Panzer II I believe with late
war figs in there. The uniforms are anachronistic and don't fit to the theme of an early war tank.

-------------

My reply :

Thanks for your kind comments, cdntanker25!
That dio Joh named it "Wiking Division (Hungary 1945)", so he meant it to be a late war dio.
You think early war tanks should not survive until late in the war? I think anything is possible.

Hi Phaisal,

Not a bad Pzr IV Ausf D at all, nice clean build. just a few things to check, The right hand
track is the wrong way round, the old holes in the side have not been filled ( but hey, neither
did I on my Wirbelwind.. ) and the Aerial mount is positioned up, but there's no aerial.. and
it's difficult to say with this light, but are the tracks painted? I think they need to be dusted
with sand or buff, to give them that dusty desert look.

But overall Samorapoom did a nice job with this old Tamiya kit. Don't let him get away.. .

Cheers
Henk

-------------

My reply :

Many thanks for your kind comments, Henk! I didn't notice about the track, but you're
right about the holes and the aerial. The tracks were painted, but may need more dust
as you suggested. Thanks again!

OK sorry Scott. Some things about those dioramas:

1.picture:
- that soldier in the foreground looks pretty wierd, like he is sitting on that tank, but
unfortunately I think he is positioned badly and looks very unstable and unrealistic

- some additional weathering is needed on that tank

- as it was already said before those are some shinny figures, try to use some matt
varnish (spray it on) to eliminate that look

- it looks like too much drybrushing was used on that whole piece

2.picture:
- first of all the picture isn't great, because only a few soldiers are sharp, the rest of
the picture came out pretty blurry

- it looks like the whole base is painted in the same color, which looks pretty strange
as normal ground color tends to vary a lot

- some figures look like they could use some more paint, shading or highligting as they
appear only basecoated

- again matt varnish would be a good idea

3.picture
- again too much drybrushing

- that guy on the left looks pretty funny, he is standing in a wierd way, plus he has a
fairly small head

There you have it, just some advice on how to make these dioramas better.

cheers,
dsc.

While I don't think the quality of the dioramas is more than passible, I laud FalconBBS
for investing in his hobby. Here in the states (particularly in the NE) a lot of folks buy toy
soldier of far less quality, and display them on "store bought" mass-produced scenes.
The key is, the owner ENJOYS what he has purchased, and take pride in sharing his
collection with the rest of us. I have reviewed the board severeal times, and althrough
not the rule, several of the dio's he has are quite nice and appear to be well built.

As for the photos, I think that Falcon is playing with the depth of field, which causes
objects in front and behind the point of focus to be a little fuzzy. Sometimes photographers
do this on purpose to draw the eye on a given object... notice the scene of the insurgent
has one figure in front (blurred) two of equal depth on the sides (clear and sharp) and one
in the rear which is also out of focus... the two that are in the same distance plane are
sharp - those in front and back are not.

Thanks for sharing Falcon. I have several customers in the states that pay for my service
as well (usually figures which ship easily)... keep doing what you enjoy, and thank you for
sharing your hobby with the rest of us.

Well said Keith. Falcon has made no secret that he commisions the models. Hopefully
the tips for improvements are passed onto his modellers, so they can learn from them ...
I think Phaisal translates them and passes them on. As for quality ... Phaisal has already
explained that he is more interested in quantity, so the modeller cannot compete with a
modeller who spends 6 months on a similar size dio. Live an let live.

My reply :

Thanks for your kind comments, Evan, Keith and Frank!
My close-up pictures have very narrow depth of field because of photographic device
constraints. My SLR, like my bike, is 20 years old. It's a Canon T-70 with 35-70mm f3.5-4.5
zoom lenses and 2x and 4x close-up filters. When the filter is used, the depth of field
is very narrow. If I didn't use the filter then I wouldn't be able to get that close.

Frank, I didn't say that I'm more interested in quantity. What I said was I want the best
of both worlds - quality and quantity. But I don't mind sacrificing a part of quality for more
quantity. Quality is always important. I believe that the tips and recommendations you gave
in the past will help my modelers do better work in the future.

Jenny, the postal service is good but the cost may not be so. I can buy Trumpeter's new
LAV-25, KV-Is or SAM-6 for $15 - $16, but to send it to and from Australia might cost more
than that amount already. Are you living in Sydney? I have a friend there who could be
my courier in the future.

Nice work... specially in the T-55... I like the "damaged" effect... another thing: lower turret,
no rear fuel tanks (not to be used in the instruction sheet), very short log, wrong search light,
these decals... the T-55 is, for sure, the old ESCI/ERTL T-55A(M) kit.... I'm working in this kit
and I'm modifying it into a Peruvian T-55... Thanks for sharing...

Many thanks for your kind comments! You're right that it's an old Esci kit, my friend also
confirmed this. How is Peruvian's T-55 differ from standard T-55?, I wonder.

Thanks for sharing them with us MM. Appreciate it very much.

Isn't it a little strange?

Modelmaniac ALWAYS give credit to the builders of the models and dios he collects and
presents to the forum and he DOESN'T take credit for them whether they are very good
or otherwise.

Do we need to always emphasize that he doesn't build them everytime he posts? Can't
we just let him respond to those who ask questions about the builds he posts here?

Is it a crime to post somebody else's works in the forum (when proper credit is given to
builder)?

The painting is very good. The only thing I would point out is that the little green lines
should also be painted in the brown splotches, and should be treated almost as a third
color, creating splotches of their own.

But that's a very minor critique and you can absolutely get away without it in a small scale
(especially since they're so freakin' small). Overall, very nice work, keep it up. What kind
of paints do you use?

Who produced that figure? Looks like a DML figure. I must say that I'm not wild about the
anatomy. Seems like he should be rocking on his left toes and not on the whole of his left
foot, if he was running. And I don't like the way his left arm is sticking out. It shold be
tucked into his body.

Well done very nice paint job.

Thanks so much for your kind words, ua0124!

plymonkey, I'll ask "Joh" the modeler what kind of paints he used when I meet him. I guess he used
oil paints (winsor and the likes). I have no idea who produced this figure, but probably not Dragon.
I have almost full range of Dragon's 1:16 figures, but I've never seen this one. I think it's a resin kit.

MM,

Very nice diorama and vignette. Again, the figures are superb.

It's kinda odd to see SS troops with Skoda Pz 38(t) late in the war. The barrel tip and sight
on the Sturmgewehr MP44 is missing.

...but anything is possible.

Buck, me too. Among the three, the Palestinian dio is my most favorite.
