Nice job overall. Good simple setting to accent the tank. The only real weakness I see
is the chain added to the front of the tank. That style of link looks like what it is...jewelry.
It would be better replaced with a lelngth of chain made up of oval links.
For the record, I used the same type of chain on an early tank I made, back when
dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Very Nice job. I like the ground work alot. THe painting is great on the fence/gate.
The only comment is that the tank seems to be floating abit. Could just be the angle
of the pics.

Good Job

Thanks so much for your kind comments and suggestions, Al and Brian!

Al, I think the same about the chains and so does a friend in the Philippines. Anyway,
he made a research and came up with this picture :

So they did have both types of chains in WWII - the oval links and the jewelry or designer
one. For future projects however, I'll prefer the oval links one.

Hi Phaisal,

Would have to agree with Al and Brian. The tank appears to be floating on the surface
and the chain just doesn't look right. Apart from the style is doesn't look strong enough
to be of any use in hauling another Tiger - sorry just spoils the look of an otherwise nice kit.

Thanks for posting.

Cheers

To me this picture prooves nothing. All I see are twisted normal links, not Jewlery style
chain. Overall I think the effort good, but certainly not professional. It would be nice to
see "Art Instructor's" product improve in quality - not just quantity. Maybe if you let him
slow down a bit and spend some serious time on a project you both would be pleasntly
surprised!

Falcon,

I agree with John. Maybe "A.I." could spend the time to build 1 model instead of 2.
Really take the time notice small detail and such. With Art Instructor's experience,
he could really put out some serious work if he take the time to do the research and
paiting technique!

He could use the time cleaning up the mold seams on the sledgehammer and towcable..
I like the M8, it shows the skills A.I. has. Diorama's take inevitably a long time to get them
'just right', and it's a pity that they suffer from being rushed.

But hey, you're happy, and that's what counts.

Cheers

I guess the question I have regarding this model is, does it really tell a story?
I don't want to offend anyone, but I feel compelled to say that, to me, this is simply
a Tiger on a base with some figures on or near it. And I just don't feel that it qualifies
as a diorama per se. There's no story-line to it.

------------

My reply :

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions. I believe A.I. has tried his best
but there are still some shortcomings like the wrong type of chains, the floating
position (I guess it's difficult to make a sinking tank on ground like that), so on
and so forth. Knowing these, we'll try to do better in the future. Thanks again!

beepboop, A.I. used Tamiya's zimmeriting tools to make the zimmerit.

Steve, it's my modeler's work, not my own. So I don't know what it's like to work on.
This figure is not available any more, it's a rare kit. As for price range, I made a survey
and found out that 1/9 figures from Jaguar sells for $ 59.98 each at modelmecca.com.
They have WWII German, Russian, US figures in that scale. Happy modelling!

Fallschirmjager, the scene could have been somewhere in Europe including Normandy...

Ace31, the zimmerit is self made and it's something "Art Instructor" is good at. He uses
the Tamiya's zimmeritting tools I gave him long time ago. Here's another Tiger Late
w/ Zimmerit but this one is Tamiya's (w/ metal tracks & Alum. Gun barrel) :

Two very nicely done Tigers!
But on the first one, I'd omit the chain. It just doesn't look right to me.Plus I don't believe
German tanks used chains since they probably weren't strong enough to tow another AFV.
All the pix of German AFV's I've seen have tow cables and not chains.Plus the location of
the chain would surely cause it to snag on many objects in the tank's path,so even if
chains were used,it would be a poor location to store it.

------------

My reply :

Many thanks for your kind comments and compliments! I agree with you about the chains,
maybe I should have removed them before photography. Oh well...

tigerman, the tarp is a kind of cloth (similar to jeans) provided by Revell. "Art Instructor"
formerly built the Kubel without MG :

but I want the MG installed so he reshaped the tarp into present position.

Dig that Kubel! This is an inspiration to start on the three I've got! (I'll probably wind up
just looking at the parts again and putting it back up on the shelf..."Honey! the sink in the
bathroom is clogged again...and the tire on my car has a nail in it I think...can you take a
look at it!")

I'll say it here too..."when I grow up I'm gonna build models that look like that!"
Thanks for the posts!

Maniac,

I am not sure if I "get" this one. Are the guys jumping off the tank deploying or just
hopping off after hitching a ride? What is the driver doing? If the guys from the tank
are deploying into an attack, what are the guys on the ground doing? I see one has
his weapon slung, which implies there is not a threat, but the guys jumping off the tank
appear to be moving with a sense of "urgency". Don't get me wrong, I like the build
and think the dio looks good, I am just trying to figure out what the "story" is.

Keep posting these pics, I love to see them.

I guess you'll have to use a lot of imagination... It's my fault. I didn't consider the
compatibilty between the two figure sets - one of which was leftover from earlier work
(a dio whose base was broken due to accident and my modeler delivered only the tank).
That's the story of this dio.

really nice, but i have a realism doubt: how can a normal soldier hold a 13,5 kg
MG42 in that position? ive hold one, and even in the correct position, they hurt a little

Sturzkampf, you asked a good question. I think maybe the German WWII soldiers
were stronger than you thought...

Very nice vehicles MM. The Greyhound, Stug and Kubelwagen looks great. The chain
on the M8 looks unrealistic I think. The rolled blanket in front of the vehicle blocks
the view of the driver. The personal gear on the side of the vehicle has no sign of
hooks or hangers. It looks like it's been "glued" on. The M8 crew usually hangs them
on the side of turret where there are many hooks or hangers.

If you (or Art) want to place gear on places on the AFV where there are no hangers you
should at least show how the personal gear is attached. My example above. The side
turret of the Sherman normally don't allow gear to be stowed. The crew "custom" made
ome hangers so they can do so. Just my opinion.

Very nice build on the figures and vehicles. Art instructor makes good figures.
The "Red Army" dio needs more debris I think. A building that size would require
mounds of debris.

http://www.14thcmc.org/imgs/14cmc-ruins-St-Lo-France-01.htm

The Tiger I dio looks good. Zimmeritts looks good. The chain on the Tiger I doesn't
look realistic. It looks like each link is twisted. It looks like it's from a fashion bracelet
or a necklace.

I think the chain should look like this...

..not like this...

Just my 2 cents.

They do have "designer" chains back then.

Defcon1, you're right about the amount of debris. Future dio bases will have to be wider
to allow space for more debris... I think the same about the chains, I tried to remove it
from the Tiger but it was glued firmly there. Thanks for your m8greyhound picture. It makes
me feel better about the chains...

A Warm Welcome Model Maniac to the Dio section seeing as this is your first posting
here in this section.

Art Instructor's work is always interesting to view. The zimmerit on the Tiger is well done.
Perhaps you can include a story with your dio submissions in the future so that viewers
can feel more involved and understand the dio better.

I hope you will enjoy your stay here.

very well done phaisal...i second beachbum..it's nice to read what the story behind..
and perhaps from whick kit/set that the dio is made...

i notice that the tank is not 'sitting' properly on the ground....or it's just the shadow...

My reply :

If possible, I'll add a small story for future dio's. As for kit/set that the dio is made, I usually
give details in my page. The Tiger is in fact floating a bit, not the shadow...

but, while the soldiers is so suspense jumping from tanks, running and aiming the
rifles, the tank commander lean comfortably on the hatch... ?

and the soldier walking out from the building seems calm and steady...

whats going on...?

nice finishing anyway...

Well, it could have been that tank infantry and the foot infantry were coming from
different path. The foot infantry were slower while the tank infantry were faster and
more active (ready for action)...

Thanks for your comments anyway...

ค. 49 18:37] ( IP A:124.120.219.216 X: )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Model maniac:

I think it's a great dio! I especially like the realistic, down-to-earth feeling of the KV tank and the figures.

Regarding the figures and the story of the dio. I have my own interpretation of the what unfolds in the dio. It goes like this:

First you have to imagine a Sovjet propaganda team in the forground, "outside" the diorama. The team wants to take some pictures of the victorius Sovjet army, and tells the accompanying NKVD officer (also outside the dio) to order some soldiers to line up in front of the tank. When the officer shouts to the tank riders to line up - and this is the dioramas "frozen moment" - two of them readily obey. The third one, at the back of the tank, is kind of shy and therefor decides to get going in the other direction. The soldiers leaving the ruined building have just rounded the corner and doesn't have a clue what's going on. That's why they look so calm. And, lastly, the tank commander. Look how he's smiling - he's very proud to getting his picture taken and printed in Pravda! That's atleast what I "see" in the dio - a great, complex story.
