You have seen the expensive one - the M1A1 AIM from Dragon. Now it's time for a cheapy one, an M1A1 HA from Trumpeter which costs less than 1/3 of the Dragon's M1A1 AIM.

Agree, it looks good, and I don't think the price matters that much when a skilled builder like AI works, it's the outcome that counts.
But of course, better fit and better details can make a kit look better in the hands of a experienced builder.

Nice.
Those 2 square plates is that extra armor, or has it a different use...?
-----------
My reply :
Thanks! I think those 2 plates are not extra armor, just nameplanes. But they're way too thick.
See those on the M1A1 AIM from Dragon which is more accurate (but it costs 3 times higher) :

Many thanks for your kind compliments! I really appreciate them! Nord, AI may not know that fact and the part is plastic same as all other parts.
I made a mistake here the same as on finescale.com, only with different picture! I didn't mean to show the second tank (T-72A shown earlier), but there was a typo (typing error), instead of "m33-086.jpg", I typed "m32-086.jpg". What I meant to show at first is this :

Tommy, what should be the color of the periscopes? Now AI is working on MT-LB6MA with similar periscopes. Perhaps I can tell him in time to paint the correct color.
Also do you know the color of the periscope of the Swedish STRV.122 tank? I got one today (from Hobby Boss), you'll see it painted in a month or so.

The same color as a mirror!
Just kidding... If you think of your 1/35 scale model as a 1/1 scale then you are looking at it from a distance (if you know what I mean). From this distance the periscopes looks black. Personally I paint my persicopes in a semi gloss black color if they are made of non transparent plastic. If they are made of clear plastic then I usually paint the backside (and only the backside) in a silver or metalic grey shade.
You can see the result (with clear plastic periscopes) on my Tiger II here:
http://www.armor.se/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1192
or here on my Tiger I:
http://www.armor.se/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=629
But there is no right or wrong here, it is more what you like. If you like it then it is the right color
Looking forward to see that STRV.122 !

Looks pretty good there, great job on the smock! I have built this kit a couple of times and it's a fun build. If I may make a small painting suggestion...using white paint and a toothpick you can dot in the stitch pattern on the leather straps of the MP-40 magazine pouches and on the Y-straps.

Carves, I had no luck with digital camera - taking many pictures with none in focus. This is the best shot for this figure :
For other figures some pictures are OK, I just don't know how to focus or use the close-up mode (camera capable of 0cm object distance but I seem unable to take shorter than 50cm distance without blurring the picture). These are some of the better shots :

Does your camera have a spot meter option? If so, use it and place that dead center on the figure. Next, increase the light. I use three 75-100 watt incandescent desk lamps for my pictures, moving them around to reduce shadows. This amount of light should increase your shutter speed and/or reduce your aperture which will increase the depth of field. If you have any control over the aperture setting, choose aperture priority mode. Worst case, drop back a bit and use the telephoto/zoom to get a larger image. Also, consider using a tripod to steady the camera and the self timer to eliminate any hand induced motion blurring.
All that said, I'm thinking the bright background is shifting your settings to compensate and placing your figures in the dark. It's like someone standing between you and a bright window.

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions, Scott and ajlafleche! I'll keep practising taking more pictures. My camera is Canon Powershot S2 IS
which I got in late 2005 but up to now I hardly read its manual. Maybe it's time I read it. I'll see if it has spot meter option or not. But for my webpages, I still prefer my SLR camera - Canon T-70 w/ 35-70 f3.5-4.5 macro zoom lenses + 2x and 4x close-up filters - which I've been using since 198x. I need no lamps or bulbs because I take pictures outdoor under the shade during day time, there's a lot of daylight. And for the last 4-5 pages, all pictures were taken using "time exposure technique", i.e., using a tripod, long exposure (1/8 to 1/2 second at f19 - f22), and self-timer shutter release so as to achieve highest depth of field (I set speed that gives depth of field betwen f19-f22 ). Here's the LRRP Vietnam or Seal figure taken using such technique :
My latest page (uploaded today) :
http://www.falconbbs.com/model33d.htm
Please take a look and see whether the background and natural lighting is OK or not.

Thanks for your comments, Arty. You want some mud and grass debris on the tracks? I think AI can do that. Trademark can be changed. Formerly he didn't bother making shoulder stripes for guns even in 1:16 scale, but after a user asked about them and I told him so, he's making some this time.

Either dirty up the tracks or don't make the hull so dirty, either way is fine. He just needs to be consistent in his weathering. If he is willing to improve that is great.

The kit looks great; the MTLB is one of those hard to find kits. Although it may look odd the tracks are not necessarily wrong. Even though the hull and wheel inners may get coated in mud, the tracks tend to stay fairly clean due to the constant friction of wheels and tracks and the fact that the blocks are getting "sandblasted" at 20-40mph. Below are a couple of pics to show what I am talking about. Even tearing through the mud you can tell that the track itself is nice and shinny. In the second pic, the vehicle is absolutely thoroughly coated, yet the tracks are fairly clean.
Once again great job on the build.

Ian, I'm not sure what should be the correct color for steel gun. You seem to want darker tone.
deattilio, those are very interesting pictures! Perhaps AI has been doing the right thing with tracks. I wonder what Arty have to say about this.

MTLB is not hard to find if you know the right source. I think I have all of its variants that's available as plastic kits. Now AI is working on MT-LB6MA, you'll see it in a few weeks' time.

There is an exception to every rule. That is why I always say usually, not never or always.
I will say that the pics deattilio has posted are not the norm, but the exception. Most tracks are not that clean. As soon as the vehicle stops, most of the mud above the tracks will start to fall all over them and they will again be covered in mud. But hey, you can have them made however you like.

Maniac. I'm a little concerned about the pics you're posting and the responses that you're giving. Are you getting "AI" to build for your pleasure or ours? If you look at your previous posts you'll see, "after a user said..." something about the straps on a gun... Just a thought. Kinda gets me that you are paying this guy for others to give input into how to do things right. I'll be straight up, I would cut "AI" off the pay roll with the constant "issues" being brought up! Gino's right, the clean tracks and dirty hull is a constant thing. It has to be said that no matter how far or fast a track runs, there will always ben dried/wet mud/dirt stuck in the tracks. Just a thought Maniac!

CDNTanker, most of all AI build for my pleasure. At the same time, I want to please as much people as possible. I can't cut AI off the pay roll because I like his works the most. I've been posting since 2003 and I can say that so far AI has received more carrots than sticks and more admirers than naysayers, and that's why I keep posting here.

He told me that first he assembled the kit without zimmeriting it but later on he realized that it needs zimmeriting, so he had to unassemble it to do the zimmerit. Zimmeriting is one of his specialties, I think. I always like the way it comes out... years after years...

Thanks for your comments. Arty, do you have any suggestions on how to handle 1-2 piece vinyl tracks like the one Mini Hobby provide? I'd like the tracks to look like the tank in the second pic (link & length tracks).
zokissima, I made a mistake. I meant to name the picture "m33-085.jpg" but then I typed "m32-085.jpg" which is another story. They're not totally different though because both are T-72s. The old one is T-72A from Zvezda and this new one is T-72B w/ Kontakt ERA from Mini Hobby.

(How come Arty didn't notice that?)
This is the real "m33-085.jpg" picture I meant to show :

Not sure what you mean by 1-2 piece vinyl tracks. If they are one long piece of vinyl that you connect to make a continuous track, then I connect them with superglue where they come together. If they are too long, cut a link or two off and reconnect with either superglue, staple the ends together, or sew them together with a needle and thread. You can then hide the connection point underneath the skirts at the top so it can't be seen.

Some kits, normally those with Zvezda roots or Zvezda reboxes (like reboxed Dragon) get treated to a pair of vinyl tracks that make up one side. Very cumbersome to deal with.

I have never had to deal with tracks like that. If so, it is the same process as I outlined above, you only have two connection points on each track. Try to hide one under a roadwheel so it isn't easily seen.

Rob is right. It's two vinyl tracks that per side. Now I have an idea how to deal with them and I'll let AI know. Thanks Arty!

On second thought, Arty's suggestion may be hard to achieve. If the two tracks are joined together into one piece (circle, one side) and it is tight, how can you put it into place? And if you put them into place first, how can you join them into one piece? (Instant glue doesn't work for certain types of vinyl, you may have to stitch or staple them together). The paradox is here.

I would put one joint together first, creating one track for each side. Then the second joint with the track on the tank. Glue, stitch, or staple them at the bottom, then turn the track till the joints are less likely to be seen.

Not too bad, but as usual, it has some accuracy errors.
First off, the ammo box on the Commander's .50 cal is on backwards. The angled support should meet the top of the box at the gun cradle. The hand grips on the Loader's M240D are made out of black resin or metal, not wood. The smoke grenade launchers should be more forward and mounted on the hull sides at about a 30 degree angle pointing up, not on the grunt rails pointing forward. The Combat identification panels are all wrong as well. The ones on the turret side and rear are too boxy and square and should have louvers, not rails running across them. The "square" CIPs on the turret front should be square, not rectangles, they are not tall enough. Lastly, he has his usual clean tracks and dirty hull and running gear.
I guess we are all wasting our breath as it appears you are not passing any of these suggestions for improvement on to him; his models continue to have the same issues.

Actually on the M1A1, there are no handgrips on the .50 cal, but some regular .50 cals have wooden grips that are either painted black or stained a dark wood color. Black resin, black wood or dark wood stain could all be appropriate.
The loader's M240 does not have resin hand grips either. The grips are bent pieces of metal rod covered with a simple piece of black rubber tubing. The grips are normally either painted the same color as the tank or are just black rubber in color. Now the dismount kit for the loader's M240 does have black resin grips for the stock and pistol grip.

I would second the comment about the wrongly-shaped Combat Identification Panels, which are too long for their height and much too thick, and the far too clean tracks, and also add that there seems to be some staining/silvering around the decals which should have been taken care of. If you choose to post pictures of your commissioned projects here, it would be nice if you'd accept our criticism, rather than try to argue your way around the facts we bring up. Otherwise, it's just advertising, which is against the rules.
Overall, it does look pretty good!

Thanks for your comments. Well, there may be some inaccuracies as you guys have pointed out but I think 95% of people don't know that (myself included). After all, AI did mostly everything according to the instruction sheets and he tried to do his best. In my eyes, it looks as good as the new M1A1 AIM from Dragon which costs more than 3 times this one. I pass on some suggestions to AI from time to time. But as you can see, perfection is endless. There's always something to be desired... Just let us know what you desire...

It's my pleasure to introduce yet another new page - a fourth consecutive new page in four consecutive weeks. And I have enough finished models to make a fifth new page next week. I hope I'm not presenting too much models. For me I never have enough of them, as long as space allows.

I like the compressed suspension on the right front of th e hanomag and there's noice work on the camo patters. Faces look pretty good, too. But again, there are two completely unrelated scenes. The guys in the hanomag are standing tall and relaxed while the MG crew is sending fire downrange. Of course, they are also fully exposed to their targets. You'd think they'd at least drop behind the fence or the tree to get a modicum of cover. I'm not crazy about the level of chipping, to me, it looks like a derelict vehicle 10 years after the war. But that's my personal taste.

I like the paint job for figures and ground work. Hanomag looks like it is floating off of ground. Perhaps it maybe just the way photo was taken.

Many thanks for all kind comments. I'm afraid ajlafleche is right. The two sets of figures don't go together very well in this dio. I made wrong choice of figures again! Have to be more careful next time. I hope the Panther G from Dragon goes together well with its Panzergrenadiers (LAH Division), that'll be the next dio. The ground may be hard so the tracks seem to float. Or maybe it's difficult to prepare the ground that will sink some parts of the tracks. This type of chipping has been trademark of Art Instructor, but it's not always the case. Depending on his diligence. When he was lazy the chipping was low - like this one :

Yeah, that would be the Sd.Kfz.251/20 Ausf.D UHU IR support vehicle.
Dio...well the vehicle is ok, I like heavily weathered vehicles, so I can appreciate it there. But the layout of the dio just doesn't really flow together at all.

Many thanks for more comments since my last reply! Some like it hot and some like it cold. For me, anything is OK. The halftrack might have been in service for a long time, so it's getting rusty.
Zokissima, yes it's Sd.Kfz.251/20 Ausf. D as you mentioned. After that I got another one, it's Sd.Kfz.251/6 C Command Vehicle released since 2004 but I've never seen it before. It comes with three soft plastic figures. And at the end of this month a new Sd.Kfz.251 with big Flak from AFV Club will hit Bangkok market, it looks real nice to me. Have you seen it?

"Soldat" is a Roman soldier I think (not sure). IIRC, that is where the word "soldier" came from.

Many thanks for your kind comments! This kit is originally VP's but the one I got is a copycat with a missing part (accessory or backpack, things like that). I'm not sure whether all the hand and arm parts were complete or not (probably not). You don't see his right arm here because half of it was missing... And his left arm looks strange... just my 2 cents.

He could have been an amputee. Admittedly, I myself bought a couple of copycat VP products over at e-bay. They've all been complete so far. Worth the price though. Now Pegasso copies- ehehehe.

hardright, you may see the right side now. I took more pics with digital camera but most pics are not in focus. This is the 'best shot' of this figure. He's probably an amputee like mondo suggested :
PS. I present another copycat today - the LRRP Vietnam 120mm probably from VP too. See my new thread.

Many thanks for your kind words, buccaneer! It's "Art Instructor" - my armor & dio modeler who built this dio. For figures, he paints using artist oil and for armors he used both airbrush and hand brush. You may read his only article on "Making of the Famo & Sd. Ah.116" here :

Well, there's no threat here. The machine gun team was just practicing firing position without real firing.

I made a mistake here in posting the pictures, but nobody has noticed that the second pic is a different tank. Now do you know what's the tank in the second pic?
hardright, what is 'soldat'? It's not in my dictionary.

First pic: T-72B
Second pic: T-72A or T72M1
Clue: placement of smoke launchers, absence of ERA in second tank
"Soldat" is a Roman soldier I think (not sure). IIRC, that is where the word "soldier" came from.

SKIF has T-72?? Can you show the box art? I wonder why it's not available on the site where all their other armors - old and new - are available. In my next Page you'll see the MT-LB6MA - the latest armor released by SKIF.

Well, T-64BV or BW is another tank and another story, SKIF just don't have the T-72. I had one T-64BV built a few months later than yours... Nice work there!
PS. Have you built the multi-media kit - the T-64BM2?
