conclusion although thai navy have a mini-carrier but the escort ships lack of air defense and anti-sub ability so no wonder ur carrier is not active..........

CBG must contain:
carriers
ddgs
subs(perfer ssn)
ffgs
Auxiliaries ships

dont worry.... buy it off china(china has all of them other than the carrier which u already have) again friendly prices(like the jianghu ffgs)

Inactive status??? I don't think so.

I have been to Thai Navy Base 3 times this year to see the carrier (it open for public visitors) but only the last time I could get on board.
For the first 2 time, it was in the sea for some exercises, Thai CARAT and Cobra Gold, I think

The main project right now is to buy air defence frigate and submarine. If china could offer the high quality air defence frigate that would be very nice.

We plan to by submarine. (Thailand has 4 submarines during WWII. But now we have nothing. SG, MY, Indo, Veit has their own submarine fleet. We are the first who come the last. )

Guys,

I agreed with Thai friend, they need Mid-Range SAM to protect their fleet and submarine for 3D warfare. The Thai carrier operation which have dry-up Thai Navy fund in long run and it also will slowdown any new procurement.

Thai Navy planner should opt for more Frigate and Submarine before they operate Carrier. Moreover, without mid-range SAM most of Thai fleet will be vulnerable in aerial strike.

I give thumb-up for Singapore Navy planner, it take less that 20 years to develop blue water capabilities.

Re: Status for Royal Thai Navy

ur CBG should have at least 4 anti-air ddgs, 2 ffg for anti-sub, another 2 ddg for anti-ship, and addition 4 subs for anti-ship and anti-sub, of course plus ur carrier...........

that is standard CBG which u could sail into deep ocean

Re: Status for Royal Thai Navy

There is nothing standard about your CVBG. The formation is actually more extensive than standard USN CVBG, which deploys with 2~3 AEGIS air defense ships, plus a pair of ASW ships, and maybe addition of 2~3 more ships, plus two SSNs. That is the USN battle group.

The French CdG has much more humble battle group, consisting of a single air-defense escort and one or two escrot frigate supported by a logistics ship. In the future, the mix isn't like to change, having just a single Horizon for air defense and 1~2 general purpose escort.

I think French or Italian styled escort force is more within Thailand's grasp. Having four dedicated air defense ships to protect a single carrier is just unreasonable. I can only think of US and Japan doing that, and Japan only because their expanding AEGIS fleet coupled with their own medium-to-short range air defense system cored around the FCS-3.

Re: Status for Royal Thai Navy

lol no wonder y french carrier is not as active as the USN's

but those usa AEGIS air-defense ships r good(beca it uses hot launch system each of them can mount with 100 missile and the chinese ones can only hold 48 missiles so chinese ones needs at least 4 air-defense ddgs which likely will sell to RTN beca usa AEGIS is 2 expensive...........

AEGIS style is not a MUST. You must understand that the AAW suite on the escorts screens the carrier, but they are not showstoppers. The carrier itself provides the showstopping air defence, anti-sub and anti-ship capabilities for the whole fleet/group.

Re: Status for Royal Thai Navy

Question, is there a potential situation where Thailand's navy will be swarmed by dozens of anti-ship missiles? I don't think anyone in the region approaches capability where AEGIS air-defense ship is needed to defend against air threat. I don't know about potential hostiles, but Thailand doesn't look like it's picking China as its potential enemy, and just about everyone in the region lacks massive anti-ship missile capability. At the very worst, it looks like SPY-1F/K or Sea APAR could do the job with ESSM.

The Thai is interested in getting the 2 Israeli Gal SSKs which is based on the German 206 SSK design but heavily upgraded by the Israeli thru out the years.

So far no confirmation yet, but Israeli are getting more Dolphin SSK, so the Gal will be soon discarded or sold, so the Thai have a great chance here.

PLA is build 054a for thailand navy!!!

CHINA EXPORTS OPV

A source from CSTC confirmed that the two 1,000-ton class OPVs, No.511 and 512 that the company was building for Thai Navy had been launched in 2004 and will be delivered to Thailand in 2006. The original agreement was signed in May 2002, providing that the two vessels will be delivered within 42 months. German Atlas Elektronik Company will provide COSYS fire control systems for the two China-made OPVs. COSYS-Compact system is composed of navigation, fire control and surveillance sub-systems.

RTN should purchase new Sub rather than second hand. Only SAF have the fund to upgrade and maintain second hand stuff.

Thai have being purchasing a few second hand iteam that lead them to some problem over the year.

BTW those OPV that RTN have purchase from PRC looks nice, I think RTN is some ways are smarter than the rest off us. Coz this will be the second or third time RTN buys thing from PRC. The hardware made in PRC but the software come from GDR.

Will RTN Purchase PRC or Western weapon for the OPV, coz If the OPV can be intergrated with PRC or Russian Weapon Suite RMN also can do the same with our OPV which have the same management system.

China and India is not our threat. The main propose (that RTN informed government) is to use this ship (OPHC 911) as the off-shore relief ship for the desaster in the peace time. (Tsunami is a good example) In the war time this ship is the flag ship.

About OPV from China, in the war time, we will install HARPOON system and use this ship as a frigate.

Fact about OPV 511. HTMS Pattani

Specification.

Length 95.5 m
Wide 11.6
Displacement Tonnage 1,440 Ton

Re: Status for Royal Thai Navy

Thai OPV is not a PLAN ship, so it is not a 054, but a seperate, export design. It's like the Germans with their own line-up with MEKO class design, or the Dutch and their Sigma types. Export designs supplied with technology developed from other national shipbuilding programs.

wait minute..... nvm ur 054 ffg looks been modified with no VLS just 8 yj-802 missiles and the main gun........... it must be very cheap and it can only be use in coast patrol missions.........
that thing only used the 054s hull desgin with crappy weaponaries which is even worst then jianghu ffg.......

omg i tot it is an advanced ffg like chinese 054 it turns out to be a paper tiger

without good weapons and radars no wonder ur 054 displacement is around 1,500 tons

At ~1400ton there is no remote chance that the Thai OPV shares a hull with your 054.

And yes, what you have described is what OPV means, Offshore Patrol Vessel. While different nations may have different requirements so such role, its obvious that the Thais decided that their ship would be build in this fashion, or they would have put in the requirements differently.

the royal navy (british) when they built the new Price Replsu with so so many ack ack did not have any enemy either at that moment.

And yet with all those ack ack, the Japs bomber sunk it near Kuantan.

If you bought such an expensive car but failed to put any security cost you leave in an island where every one is rich and no one will stole your car. what happend is some body took it.

Those ship were called as 911 for some reason, how sure are we there is no weapon at all on board.
