IAF may lose out to Pak

New Delhi: A crisis has been brewing in the Indian Air Force and it's about to blow up in the face of the government. The Indian Air Force (IAF) top brass has informed the Union Government that if corrective measures are not taken immediately, India will lose its air superiority over Pakistan.

"Unless immediate steps are taken to arrest the reduction in Indian Air Force's force levels, the nation will for the first time in its history, lose the conventional military edge over Pakistan."

This is a what the three-page letter of warning, written by Air Chief Marshall Tyagi to Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, says.

A copy of the letter, which has raised serious concerns over the declining combat force level of the IAF, is available with CNN-IBN.

In his letter, the Air Chief Marshall writes, "Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is being beefed up with 44 F16s from America. They have a clearly defined goal of attaining parity with the IAF. With China supplying J 10 and JF 17 aircraft (fitted with Russian engines), PAF force levels of combat squadron will increase."

"Unless steps are taken to move ahead with procurement, the IAF's combat strength will deplete to a level, which would entirely neutralise the conventional superiority held by IAF since our Independence. PAF will have 19 to 26 squadrons by 2011-12, while the IAF could reduce to 26.5 by 2015."

Many say the situation is very serious and demands immediate attention.

Says Additional Director, Air Power Studies, Kapil Kak, "This aircraft induction will take at least 10 years from today and in those 10 years, the MiG 21's will progress if they get wound down. Their total technical life and design life will end and we will have the Air Force combat force strength winding down, worringly fast."

The Indian Air Force has always enjoyed an edge in numbers over its adversary - the Pakistan Air Force - and thus the downward spiral has been a cause for concern for sometime.

The Standing Committee on Defence raised the same objections, but this time the concern comes from the Air Chief - whether it's the much hyped Light Combat Aircraft, or the Request for Proposals for 126 Multi Role Medium Range Combat Aircraft, several of these inductions are very delayed.

It's these very concerns that the Air Chief wants the Defence Minister to address.

In his letter, the Air Chief Marshall has also requested the RM to spearhead the following:

* Direct acquisition of 40 additional Su-30 MKIs from Russia on fast track.

* Request for Proposal for 126 Multi Role Medium Range Combat Aircraft be issued at the earliest.

* And last urge the Russian govt maintain their commitment of not permitting China to sell aircraft with Russian engines to Pakistan.

As the Air Force gets ready to celebrate its 74th anniversary, its dominace of the Subcontinent's airspace and the crucial roles its played in every Indo-Pak conflict is under threat.

It is for the Government now to make sure that IAF remains the superior air power it has always been.

'May lose air supremacy over Pakistan'

It'll be downgraded to superiority

They did compress the timeframe for Su-30 induction. Furthermore, the IAF is pushing for immediate purchases of more Su-30s and Mirages. However, the MRCA selection process WILL take a long time; thus, there will need to be a workaround.

In addition, this statement is directed towards a national audience and has been purposefully "leaked" by the IAF to scare the politicians into giving more funds and expediting the progress of the MRCA. Its the same thing that the Pentagon does when it releases it annual report. China and Islamic terrorists are the flavor of the day in the US, and in India, we use the threat of Pakistan as a was to strengthen the military. Its politics, boys.

hey my dear frnds before jumping to any conclusion & feeling sad about  it lets have some facts....

1.Its true that IAF is loosing its edge over PAF.....thanks to the slugginesh of GOI...

2.tender  4 126 MRCA is yet to be decided...........

3.LCA project is not ready.........

4.the workhorse of IAF MIG--21,23,27 are getting older & need replacement

These pictures r GRIM enough...........but on brighter side AnY hostile Country (excpt China may be) is not in position of challenging IAF..........

THE BUMBLING PAF is almost a no threat AT present EXCEPT 2 sqd. F 16 (ancient version)they have nothing to match........

1. their so called supercraft J17/FC1 is many lightyears away 4m being inducted........(.actualy this a/c is child of a discarded Russian MIG31 project but the chinki & paki apes r going gaga...over it let then enjoy)

2.next comes the good ol' MIRAGE(I II III V) but these r vintage & mothballed ones and wll be a treat 4 our own MIRAGe2000.....

3.finally they operate some ancients F-7PGs, F-7MPs A-5Cs  F-6 (Chinese MiG-19).....even our old MIG 21 wll kick the s**t out of them.......

I am not saying that we should not b worried about future......we must try our best 2 increase our strength  (spcly when our Enemies r busy in SHOPPING new F16s)    .

But at present i don't think ther is any chance of IAF losing out to Pak

IAF may loose out PAF....wow what a joke.this is something crying fowl..isnt it???no offence to pakistani friends here but let me clear what i think...

PAF does not still have fully BVR and all weather dedicated fighters even today...their mirages(very old) basic F-16 s and rest other fighters are no match for MKI,M2K and Fulcrums which are all BVR capable and all weather dedicated fighters of IAF.ok now lets have look at their future plans...

150 JF-17Thunders and 36 or may be more J-10's.that means majority of the fighters will be coming from chinese junkyard...

yes junkyard...because chinese technology is something which atleast i wont take it seriously.they are no match for american, russian and european tecnology.chinese tech is for the ppl who cannot afford large number of western fighters and this applies to PAKISTAN...they cannot afford rafeal or typhoon in decent nos and even if they manage to buy them then maintainence will cause havock for them..this is the reason they are going for the chinese inferior tech and adding thunders in large nos becuz most of their fighters are on the way to become/or already obsolete and will be retiring soon.
yes the F-16 block 52+ is a decent fighter but we know americans and with what conditions and strings they will land in pak.im not talking technialy but politically.lets forget the conditions for a while and imagine a future war senerio where those F-16 will face almost 100+ MKI's,70+M2K-9 (will be upgraded to this level till paf gets all the above fighters)and 75 or + MIG-29-SMT all operating under one of most advanced PHALCON awacs umbrella, nothing will go in favor of PAF.IAF will clearly gain an upperhand over PAF even if we do not go for 126 MRCA's.now this was the part of jets and awacs.now lets have a look at each others SAM arsenals...india currently posses one of the most dangerous SAM systems like S-300 and sooner or later will surely get arrow or patriot and it will be integrated with green pine radars and that will cause another havock for the PAF while dealing with MKI's and other fighters.Pakistan's SAM ability, what to say????they have nothing in the class of india.so PAF will not be only facing hitech IAF fighters but also they have to deal with advanced SAMs of india.do u really belive that F-16 and junky chinese fighters will be able to achive advantage????french are already offering their 20 used rafeals to india...pray to god that with those 20 rafeals india dont go for 126 rafeals+MIG-35 split.cuz if it goes then india will become the most advanced airpower of asia which i will always wish.anyway the point was airchief doesnt need to cry wolf just to get 126 MRCA quickly.yes wee must induct them ASAP cuz its already too late but for that there is no need a flatter the ppl even for some time who are milliterily, economically no match for us.
