Mahadeb bags Mr Universe title

 GUWAHATI, June 21 â State bodybuilder Mahadeb Deka bagged the Mr Universe title in the bantamweight category in the Muscle Mania competition held at Miami last night.

An All Assam Bodybuilding Association (AABA) source here said Mahadeb beat bodybuilders from countries like Canada, France to win the crown.

The State bodybuilding association and Association of Bodybuilders, Kamrup, congratulated Mahadeb for his remarkable show and celebrated the victory by bursting crackers at Dighalipukhuri here this evening. Mahadeb, who underwent an open-heart surgery a few years back, had a remarkable show in the national meet held early this year in Madhya Pradesh where he was selected for the Indian team. Last year he was runner-up in the same championship.

Former Mr India and secretary of the AABA Bijit Gogoi congratulated Mahadeb for his feat and appealed to all the bodybuilders of the State to receive the champion on his arrival on June 24.
