LANDI KOTAL: Fresh clashes between rival militant groups in the remote Tirah valley claimed nine more lives on Friday.

According to sources, armed activists of Lashkar-i-Islam and Ansaar-ul-Islam attacked each others positions in the Malakdinkhel area with heavy and light weaponry. The rival groups made conflicting claims about casualties in the ongoing fighting.

Lashkar-i-Islam spokesman in Bara told the media that they had killed seven of their opponents while two of their activists were also killed while two others had been injured.

Ansaar-ul-Islam spokesman claimed to have killed six Lashkar supporters and conceded the loss of three of their armed volunteers.

Fresh armed clashes started in the picturesque Tirah valley bordering Afghanistan after a lull in the fighting between the two banned outfits.

More than three dozen armed supporters of both sides have lost their lives in the renewed fighting.

The fresh clashes have also compelled a number of families to shift to safer places from the conflict-hit area. Supporters of both groups have also burnt more than two dozen houses.
