Aug 26, 2009
A freight train, which departed from Islamabad to test the newly established 6,500 km railway linking Pakistan, Iran and Turkey, arrived in eastern Turkey Tuesday, the semi-official reported.
The railway line, which was recently completed linking Islamabad, Tehran and Istanbul, aims at connecting members states of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), according to the report.
ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey to boost cooperation. It currently holds 10 member states.
The first freight train departed from Pakistan on Aug. 14 and stopped at Iranian capital of Tehran Sunday, and then arrived in Saray town in eastern Turkish Van province early Tuesday, said the report.
A number of Turkish, Iranian and Pakistani railway officials were on the train, according to the report.
The new railway connected Pakistan to Europe via Iran and Turkey, Turkish railway official Muhammed Atilcan was quoted as saying.
The train journey from Islamabad to Istanbul takes about 13 days, while travelling from European countries to Pakistan via seaway needs almost 40 to 45 days.
The Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul railway project comes amid efforts to boost economic cooperation among ECO member states.
Besides Pakistan, Iran and Turkey, ECO members are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The new heaven for drug dealers...
Searching a truck for drugs lasts 40min. the time needed to search a wagon would be similar.
A drug-search dog can search max. 3 hours.
1 dog 4 wagons. these dogs are quite expensive and rare
So that you cant search every wagon.
Easy way.. no need for dealers at everycountry. but i'm happy making it pass through our country will decrease the drugs staying in Turkey and poisoning our youth.

great news
we have more in common wth our central asian neighbours than the smelly lil brown indians to our east
The warlike Pathans [or Pathan, Pukhtun or Pushtun] form one of the world's largest tribal societies (about 16 million) and are divided into numerous sub-tribes and clans.... The Pathan hill tribes all have a passion for freedom and independence, and defend their territory and honor against all invaders. They are fearless guerilla fighters who know the hills and valleys intimately, are crack shots and wear clothes that blend with their surroundings (khaki is a local word meaning 'dusty, and it was as a result of the wars in this region that the British army abandoned its bright red uniforms for the inconspicuous dust-colored khaki). No one has ever managed to subdue or unite them: the Mughals, Sikhs, British and Russians have all suffered defeat at their hands."
"The Pukhtunwali (the Way of the Pukhtuns) is an inflexible ethical code by which all true Pathans traditionally abide. Pukhtunwali requires that every insult be revenged and, conversely, every guest protected. To safeguard his honor, o the honor of his family or clan, a Pathan will sacrifice everything, including his money and his life. He will return even t he slightest insult with interest. According to a Pathan proverb, 'He is not a Pathan who does not give a blow for a pinch.'"
"The Pathans are notorious for the family feuds, often the result of disputes over zar, zan or zamin - gold, women or land."
"In Lords of the Khyber (1984), Andre Singer illustrates this by recounting the story of a man he interviewed 'who proudly declared that he had killed seven male members of a Mahsud family for having insulted his wife, and so far only his brother had been killed in the revenge.'"
"Tales of the dangers of the Khyber Pass and the legendary ferocity of the Pathans stirred the English imagination and evoked scenes of gallant soldier defending the might of the Raj against the equally gallant but merciless Pahatns.... Nonetheless, if the British exacted revenge by razing whole villages to the ground, the Pathans retaliated with ambushes and slaughter, and even mutilated wounded enemies.

Pakistans nod for South Asian train service proposal
Pakistans Railways Ministry has technically approved an Indian proposal to launch a South Asian train service linking Bangladesh, India and Pakistan and forwarded it to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce for further evaluation.
The proposal was floated by the Indian Railways two weeks ago, the Dawn quoted officials as saying.
Experts had acknowledged the potential of the South Asian route and they see it as more easy to operate, the officials said. The three countries have broad gauge tracks and their operating systems are similar.
Officials of the Railways Ministry said experts had suggested that the Dhaka-Delhi-Lahore train service was viable in all respects. The service could be extended to Karachi or Islamabad if the need arose, they said.
The initial trials would be container operations followed by passenger services, said a report prepared by experts.
The Indian proposal came in the backdrop of reports that the Economic Cooperation Organisation planned to launch an Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul train service.
