Maoists blew up a newly built community centre in Akri village under the Dev block of Aurangabad district on Monday midnight. The
incident occurred during the 48-hour bandh called by Maoists in five states to protest the arrest of their two senior leaders by the Bihar police on August 19.

Around 50 cadres of the CPI (Maoist) swooped on Akri village around Monday midnight and set off dynamites to blow up the community centre building, police said on Tuesday. No casualty was reported as the building was empty when the Maoists triggered the blast.

On receiving information, Aurangabad DSP Akhtar Hussain rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary investigations.

The Maoists also raised slogans of "Lal Salaam Zindabad" while making a retreat. Panic prevails in the village even as the police claimed the situation to be normal.

Sources said that the community centre was built with the assistance of the local MLA's fund. The centre was yet to be inaugurated.

It is alleged that the Bihar police had arrested a politburo member and a central committee member of the CPI (Maoist), Anil and Kartik, respectively, on August 19 while they were coming to Patna from Ranchi by train.

However, the Bihar police have strongly denied to have arrested the two Maoists.

Earlier, the Maoists had blasted railway tracks between Hehegara and Kumandi stations in Latehar district in Jharkhand on the start of their two-day bandh on August 24. Besides, they also torched two mobile towers in Palamu district in Jharkhand and a railway station in Orissa.
