After enduring sexual assault and inhuman torture at the hands of police personnel of Shah Latif and Steel Town police stations, 17-year-old Zeeshan Butt is now going to testify before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday (tomorrow) for his alleged rape and torture by the staff of the Landhi Jail.
He is just 17-year-old but has seven false cases against him since 2006. He has been sodomised repeatedly, brutally tortured despite the fact that his parents have given thousands of rupees to personnel of Shah Latif and Steel Town police stations to prevent him from being maltreated. And now, he is in Landhi jail, where he was sexually assaulted and tortured again for failing to fulfill the demands of the jail personnel, Qadir Khan Mandokhail Advocate, counsel of Butt, told The News on Monday.
Butt is a resident of Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Phase II and was first taken into custody by the Shah Latif police on charges of police encounter in 2006.
Butt was arrested in an FIR of police encounter that was registered against unknown criminals. Some friends and relatives of Butt disclosed that he was again picked up by the Steel Town police on 10th Ramzan when he was coming out of a mosque from Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and after lodging of a case against him, he was sent to the Landhi jail after his parents refused to bribe them.
In the Landhi jail, Butt spent Eid in solitary confinement where he was not only subjected to brutal torture but was also sexually assaulted as his mother had given only 2000 rupees to him for giving Eidi to the jail staff, Mandokhail said, adding that the torture in the jail compelled Butts mother to stand up for justice and she approached him.
MandoKhail said that the personnel of the Shah Latif police station not only sodomised the ill-fated boy but also took his nude pictures to blackmail his family and fleece more money from them.
A case in this regard has already been registered against personnel of the Shah Latif police station, Chaudhry Arif, Head Constable Muhammad Ashraf and one unknown in their own police station on charges of sexual assault and blackmailing.
Similarly, District Judge Malir, has also ordered registration of a case against personnel of the Steel Town police station including Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Bajwa and ASI Zahid for registering false cases against Butt, however, the police are still reluctant to register the case against them, he added.
His family has approached me and on my complaint, District and Sessions Judge Malir has appointed Judicial Magistrate V Ashraf Bhatti as an inquiry officer to probe charges of sexual assault and torture of a juvenile prisoner, he said.
DIG Prisons Mumtaz Burni when contacted by The News, termed Rashid Butt as a hardened and habitual criminal and said he made these allegations to get relief and undue privileges from the jail authorities.
The official added that Butt has been sent in for a medical check up at the Civil Hospital Karachi and said that a medical report would reveal the truth about his harassment claims.
