Indian software professional have failed miserably in developing systems application. Why become slave of SAP and not create SAP like tools itself. Why become salve of Oracle and Microsoft, why not at least develop Linux like operating systems? After twenty-eight years of creating zillion cyber slave programmer and analysts, India still could not produce single packaged software that could be sold in excess of 10,000 copies in United States.

India just cant find people with both qualities in one. Some Indians are traders. They like to sell programmer bodies and make some money per jour. It is no different than selling potatoes in the market except the potatoes here are live educated young programmers. You buy them cheap with all kinds of promises and sell them high to the American and the Europeans. These traders own the TCS, Wipro and Infosys making money by trading skills.

There are real talented Indians who work for these moron traders. They have technical sense but no business sense. As a result, India is stuck as third world software development nation that knows the tricks of software development but cannot sell its own software package.

I wonder how did you post this message in this forum. YES, I am wondering how you solved the mathematical question inorder to post a message.

Do they also have a Computer god there like all other elephant and Goose gods?

Why 1 million Indians Escape from India every year?

Here are some Indian facts:

Foreign remittance from Non Resident Indians

In 2006, India received the highest amount of remittance globally from migrants, 27 $Billion. Around 20$ billion are from the Gulf expatriate workforce. Further, Indian government expects overseas Indians to pump in about US$500 billion into the FOREX reserves of the country in the next 10 years, making them the single largest source of foreign receipts.

Poverty Graph

India accounts for 40 % of the worlds poor and its fiscal deficit is one of the highest in the world. Almost half of Indian women are still illiterate; about 40 million primary school-age children are not in school. India ranks way down at 96 among 119 developing countries included in the Global Hunger Index (GHI). Ref: IFPRI Country Report on India

Population:

In India, 16 % of the population still remains and live with out having sustainable access to improved water resources and there is a probability at birth for 15.3 % of the population of not surviving to the age of forty. 34.7 % of the Indian population lives with an income below $ 1 a day and 79.9 % below $ 2 a day. According to the Indias planning commission report 26.1 % of the populations live below the poverty line.

According to the Indian census of 2001, the total population was 1.028 billion. Hindus numbered 827 million or 80.5 %. About 25 per cent (24 million) of those Hindus are belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes. About 40 per cent (400 million) are Other Backward Castes.

Even though, 15 per cent are belonging to Hindu upper castes, they inherited civil service, economy and active politics. And thus the caste system virtually leaves lower caste Hindus in to an oppressed minority in Indias power structure.

Discrimination against Dalits

We are alarmed by the fact that even after 60 plus years of survival after independence from Britain, every hour 2 Dalits are assaulted, every day 3 Dalit women are raped, everyday 2 Dalits are murdered, everyday 2 Dalit houses are burnt down.

Minorities

About 20 %, or 200 million, are religious minorities. Muslims constitutes 138 million or 13.4 5, Christians 24 million or 2.3 %, Sikhs 19 million or 2 %, Buddhists 8 million or 0.8 % and Jains 4 million or 0.4 %. Others numbered 6.6 million or 0.6 %. According to Mr. Tahir Mahmood, an Indian Muslim journalist, The 2.3 % Christians in the Indian population cater to 20 % of all primary education in India, 10 % of all the literacy and community health care, 25 % of all existing care of destitute and orphans, 30 % of all the handicapped, lepers and AIDS patients etc.

Discrimination against Minority Muslims
Recently, Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee report admitted that 138 Million Muslims across India are severely under-represented in government employment, including Public Sector Units. Ironically, West Bengal, a communist ruled state reported 0 (zero) percent of Muslims in higher positions in its PSUs! It has found that the share of Muslims in government jobs and in the lower judiciary in any state simply does not come anywhere close to their population share. The only place where Muslims can claim a share in proportion to their population is in prison! (Muslims convicts in India is 19.1%, while the number of under trials is 22.5%, which exceed their population ratio) . A note sent on January 9 by the army to the defence ministry in 2004 says that only 29,093 Muslims among a total of 1.1 million personnel a ratio of 2.6 %, which compares poorly with the Muslims 13 % share in the Indian population. Officially, Indian Army dont allow head count based on religion.

A Muslim child attends school for three years and four months, compared to the national average of four years. Less than two percent of the students at the elite Indian Institutes of Technology comprise of the Muslim community.

Discrimination in Media

Hindu upper caste men, who constitute just eight per cent of the total population of India, hold over 70 % of the key posts across newsrooms in the country. The so-called twice-born Hindu castes dominate 85 % key posts despite constituting just 16 % of the total population, while the intermediary castes a represent meager 3%.

The Hindu Other Backward Class groups, who are 34 % of the total population, have a share of just 4% in the Indian newsrooms. Muslims, who constitute about 13 % of the population, control just 4 % top posts while Christians and Sikhs have a slightly better representation. But the worst scenario emerges in the case of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes /Aborgines (STs): Based on CSDS study, 2006. Ref: The Hindu, June 05, 2006

Discrimination in Judiciary

Indias subordinate courts have a backlog of over 22 million cases while the 21 high courts and the Supreme Court have 3.5 million and 32,000 pending cases (2006). At the current speed, the lower courts may take 124 years for clearing the backlog. There were only 13 judges for every million people. Among 12 states with high-Muslim population, Muslim representation in judicial sector is limited to 7.8%. (Justice Sachar Report).

Recently a parliamentary committee blamed the judiciary for keeping out competent persons of downtrodden communities from through a shrewd process of manipulation. Dalits and Indian aborigines are lesser than 20 out of 610 judges working in Supreme Court and state high Courts. This nexus and manipulative judicial appointments have to be broken, it urged. [Parliamentary standing committee report on Constitutional Review, Sudarshan Nachiappan]

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, only 31 per cent criminal trials are completed in less than a year. Some take even more than 10 years. According to its study, Crime in India 2002, nearly 220,000 cases took more than 3 years to reach court, and about 25,600 exhausted 10 years before they were completed. The term of the Liberhan Commission, formed 14 years ago to probe the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya and originally given a mandate of three months, has been extended again!

Prison and Human Rights

When it comes to Human Rights issues in India, it is not ratified the UN Convention against Torture, its citizens do not have the opportunity to find recourse in remedies that are available under international law. The victims are trapped with the local Hindu caste system, which in every aspect militates against their rights. Many victims conclude that a justice system accessible to the poor of the land does not exist at all.

According to the National Human Rights Commission, as on 30th June 2004, there were 3,32,112 prisoners in Indian jails out of which 2,39,146 were under trial prisoners. Thats more than 70 %. Indias jails hold a disproportionate number of the countrys minority Muslims, a sign of discrimination and alienation from the Hindu majority. Prison statistics of Indian Jail can be seen from National Crime Record Bureau, here

Discrimination against Children

In India, more than 92 % children cannot progress beyond secondary school.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, India has the highest number of street children in the world. There are no exact numbers, but conservative estimates suggest that about 18 million children live and labor in the streets of Indias urban centers. Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta each have an estimated street-children population of over 100,000.

The level of child malnutrition in India is among the highest in the world, higher even than some countries in sub-Saharan Africa, says the report Extent of Chronic Hunger and Malnutrition in India by the UNs special rapporteur on the right to food (2006).

Discrimination against Women

According to the 2001 census, female literacy in India is 54.16 % against male literacy of 75.85 %. Most of the working women remain outside the organized sector: A mere 2.3 % women are administrators and managers, and 20.5 % professional and technical workers.

There are an estimated 40 million Hindu widows in India, the least fortunate of them shunned and stripped of the life they lived when they were married. Its believed that 15,000 widows live on the streets of Vrindavan, a city of about 55,000 in northern India.

Nearly 9 out of 10 pregnant women aged between 15 and 49 years suffer from malnutrition and about half of all children (47%) under-five suffer from underweight and 21 % of the populations are undernourished. India alone has more undernourished people (204 million) than all of sub-Saharan Africa combined. Nearly 20 % of women dying in childbirth around the globe are Indians. Six out of every 10 births take place at home and untrained people attend more than half of them. 44 % of the Indian girls were married before they reached the age of 18. It added, 16 % of girls in the age group 15-19 years were already mothers or expecting their first child and that pregnancy is the leading cause of mortality in this age group.

Corruption

Transparency International estimates that Indian truckers pay something in the neighborhood of $5 billion annually in bribes to keep freight flowing. According to TI, 25 % of Indians paid bribe to obtain a service. 68 % believe that governmental efforts to stop the corruption as ineffective. More than 90 % consider police and political parties as the worst corrupt insitutions. 90 % of Indians believe that corruption will increase within the next 3 years. Corruption is a large tax on Indian growth, It delays execution, raises costs and destroys the moral fiber. says Prof. Rama Murthi.

Fetus Killing

Women to men ratio were feared to reach 20:80 by the year 2020 as female fetus killing is rampant. Ten million girls have been killed by their parents in India in the past 20 years, either before they were born or immediately after, told Indian Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury to Reuters. According to the 2001 census, the national sex ratio was 933 girls to 1,000 boys, while in the worst-affected northern state of Punjab, it was 798 girls to 1,000 boys. The availability of ultrasound sex-determination tests leads to such mass killings in India.

Human Trafficking

Out of the 593 districts in India, 378 or 62.5 % are affected by human trafficking. In 2006, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sponsored study conducted by Shakti Vahini, found that domestic violence, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty; unsafe migration and child marriage are the major reasons for the increasing rate of illegal human trafficking.

95 % of the women in Madhya Pradesh in commercial sex are due to family traditions. So are 51.79 % in Bihar, said the study. While 43 % of the total women trafficked are minors, 44 percent of the women are into flesh trade due to poverty. Of the total women who are into sex work in the country, 60 % are from the lower and backward class, which indicates the pathetic living condition of the communities. In Madhya Pradesh, a political bastion of Hindu right wing party, 96.7 % of the women sex workers are from the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

India has 4 million prostitutes nationwide and 60% of the prostitutes are from the Scheduled Castes and Tribes or other backward caste. UNAIDS says over 38% of those living with HIV in India are women.

High Crime Rate and Communal Riots

According to National Crime Records Bureau, there was 1822602 riots in 2005 alone. [ Incidence Of Cognizable Crimes (IPC) Under Different Crime Heads, concluded, Page 2] NCRB website

Under Indias notorious caste system, upper caste Hindus inherited key positions and controls all the governmental branches. Violence against victims largely goes unpunished due to the support of this upper caste crooks.

Armed Conflicts in India

Almost every state has separatist movements, many of them armed. A large number of Muslims were killed in the past few years across the country and the numbers are on a steady rise. On top of that India has become a paraya for its neighbours. None of its neighbours appreciate their closeness to India and they all blame it for meddling in their affairs.

The military might of centric Hindu elites isolated people of Jammu & Kashmir and the northeastern states. To grant impunity to law enforcement officers deployed in this region, the government has sanctioned the unwarranted use of force. It is difficult for any community to feel part of a larger country when the armed forces of the country are deployed to silence them.

According to an Indian official report that 76 of 299 districts in nine provinces Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are badly affected by tribal and dalit violence. Indias military spending was recorded at US $21.7 billion in 2006. 85 percent of the Armys budget is spent on the enormous manpower of 1,316,000.

In 2005, Business Week reported that India became Israels largest importer of weapons, accounting for about half of the $3.6 billion worth of weapons exported by the Jewish state.

Human Development vs GDP growth

The Human Development Report for 2007-08 released by the UNDP ranked India 128 out of 177 countries, working it out through measures of life expectancy, education and income. Malaysia ranked 63 and listed at under High Human Development category. The report found that Indias GDP per capita (purchasing power parity) is $3,452, far below Malaysias $10,882. Read the statistics from UNDP website

Since 1998 about 25 000 Indian farmers have committed suicide because they could not repay their debts. These debts, however, have largely accumulated because these farmers were severely overcharged by their money-lenders asking for up to 32% of interest.

Unemployment

Recently, a national report on the employment situation in India has warned that nearly 30 percent of the countrys 716 million-strong workforce will be without jobs by 2020. Government of India doesnt have the resources or political will to find jobs for such a large population.

India, a closed country

India is very much a closed country than China. The Hindu elite leaders of the country always concerned about its physical boundaries and national security rather than the life of its 85 % downtrodden poor people. Irrespective of its huge area, the foreign exchange earned from tourism in India was merely $2.61 billion (2006) and its share in world tourism map, was hovering between 0.38% to 0.39% for number of years. Indian immigration doesnt welcome foreigners to visit India. VOA facilities are not available to anyone. Easier entry to India is virtually limited to countries with considerable Hindu population. For eg, Nepal, Mauritius, etc.

Indian Embassies are rated as the worst service providers around the globe. They are notorious for red tapes and corruption friendly service by Non Resident Indians itself.

Global Warming effects in India

Economic loss due to global warming in India is estimated between 9-25%. GDP loss may be to the tune of 0.67%. Prediction of loss of wheat is more. Rabi crops will be worse hit which threatens food security. Drought and flood intensity will increase.100-cm sea level rise can lead to welfare loss of $1259 million in India equivalent to 0.36% of GNP. Frequencies and intensities of tropical cyclones in Bay of Bengal will increase. Malaria will be accelerated to an endemic in many more sates. 20% rise in summer monsoon rainfall. Extreme temperatures and precipitations are expected to increase. [From Sir Nicholas Stern Report]

Quit India!

Sixty years ago Indians asked the British to quit India. Now they are doing it themselves. To live with dignity and enjoy relative freedom, one has to quit India! With this massive exodus, what will be left behind will be a violently charged and polarized society. Sooner the democratic institutions in India will be replaced with defense institutions like Turkey.

Hindutvas fake National Pride of India

A 2006 opinion poll by OutlookAC Nielsen shows that 46 % of Indias urban class wants to settle down in US. Interestingly, in the Hindutva heart land of Gujarat, 54 % of people want to move to US.

When Indians are fleeing around the world to find a job, how can this hindutva idiots can claim on National Pride of India?

Hindutva Idiots, Your false pride and actions make our life miserable.

when the Goras arrived in the subcontinent they mocked the population with calling them as "indians" which in fact is a name given to savages in many places of the world

but now that india is free, why exactly you people like calling yourself indians and the country is named india?

India's Poor Grew by 13.6 Million in 2009: UNDESA Report

NEW DELHI: An estimated 13.6 million more people in India became poor or remained in poverty than would have been the case at 2008 growth rates.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) data estimates that the number of Indias poor was 33.6 million higher in 2009 than would have been the case if the growth rates of the years from 2004 to 2007 had been maintained. In 2009 alone, an estimated 13.6 million more people in India became poor or remained in poverty than would have been the case at 2008 growth rates.

In other words, while a dip from the 8.8% growth in GDP averaged from 2004-05 to 2006-07 to the 6.7% estimated for 2008-09 may be nothing like the recession faced by the West, its human consequences for India were probably worse. The 2.1% decline in Indias GDP growth rate has effectively translated into a 2.8% increase in the incidence of poverty.

Based on the report, India is the biggest victim of financial crisis-induced poverty, according to UNDESA data.

According to the UNDESAs World Economic Situation and Prospects 2010, 47 million more people globally became poor or remained in poverty in 2009 than would have been the case at 2008 growth rates, and 84 million more than would have poor at 2004-7 growth rates. Of these, 19 and 40 million respectively are in south Asia.

The report uses the World Banks definition of poverty, which is people living on less than $1.25 per day in 2005 Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) dollars.

The estimates assume that there has been no change in income distribution. If inequality grew in India in 2009, the number of poor would be even higher than these projections.

The UNDESA report attributes this increase in poverty to a combination of reduced household incomes, rising unemployment and pressure on public services. Job losses in India were primarily in export-oriented industries like textiles while employment levels in Indian firms catering to the domestic market were largely unaffected, the report says.

Poor women used as guinea pigs in Andhra
TNN Jun 17, 2011, 06.29am IST

PIDUGURALLA (GUNTUR): Exactly a decade after farmers in Palnadu region sold their kidneys to clear their mounting debts, poverty-stricken women from the backward Palnadu region have fallen prey to clinical trials by a Hyderabad-based pharma company.

The clinical tests on human beings, reportedly without the requisite permission of the state government, came to light on Thursday when some of the victims fell seriously ill in Piduguralla town. Many of those who returned from the lab after the tests developed acute joint pains, swelling in arms and throat infections. Acting swiftly, district collector V N Vishnu directed district medical and health officer Gopi Naik to rush to Piduguralla and probe the incident.

"Though the pharma company promised to pay us huge amounts before conducting the tests, they paid me only 9,000," rued Shaik Bibi, who underwent the tests along with several other women in the lab in Miyapur, Hyderabad. The firm, breaking all rules, did not provide any information to the women on the nature of tests conducted on them.

"Some middlemen engaged by the company take the illiterate women directly to the lab. This has been going on for some time now," sources said.

Though the women returned home without any complications, side-effects of the pills they had consumed at the lab nearly 3-4 months back are showing now. "I was perplexed when I could not walk even a couple of yards a few days ago. Initially I thought it was a routine sickness. After going through medical tests here, I came to know that it was the result of the drug administered at the lab in Hyderabad," said Paila Dhanalakshmi.

Sources said the people selected for the clinical trials are `detained' in the lab for four continuous days. According to the women, they came across people from north Indian states also in the lab. "But we were strictly not allowed to interact with others," a woman revealed. Most of the women who went from Piduguralla are farm workers and daily wagers.

A counselling session is conducted for the selected people and later they are forced to sign on a bond before undergoing the tests. "If everything goes well after taking a tablet, the person is asked to visit the lab again after 10 days when an injection is given. Another dose of injection is administered after 10 days. We were paid Rs 9,000 for the three rounds of tests," said a victim Jakka Kumari.

"If any abnormalities in the blood samples are found or the volunteer develops complications, he/she is sent back by handing over a mere Rs 1,000," stated a weeping Kommu Karunamma.

Sources said more than 40-50 people from Adarsh Colony, Chandrapalem and Indiramma Colony in Piduguralla have been visiting the lab for the past few months.

When contacted, one of the brokers, Shaik Jameela, who reportedly took some women to the Hyderabad-based lab, shot back: "The women are selling their own blood and not anyone else's. What's the problem." She claimed that the women she had taken did not complain of any side-effects.

Meanwhile, six of the affected women are being shifted to the Guntur government hospital. "If we come across any irregularities, we will slap a case against the pharma company," warned the DM&HO.

55% of India's population poor: Report
Rukmini Shrinivasan, TNN Jul 15, 2010, 03.24am IST

NEW DELHI: India's abysmal track record at ensuring basic levels of nutrition is the greatest contributor to its poverty as measured by the new international Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI). About 645 million people or 55% of India's population is poor as measured by this composite indicator made up of ten markers of education, health and standard of living achievement levels.

Developed by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) for the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) forthcoming 2010 Human Development Report, the MPI attempts to capture more than just income poverty at the household level. It is composed of ten indicators: years of schooling and child enrollment (education); child mortality and nutrition (health); and electricity, flooring, drinking water, sanitation, cooking fuel and assets (standard of living). Each education and health indicator has a 1/6 weight, each standard of living indicator a 1/18 weight.

The new data also shows that even in states generally perceived as prosperous such as Haryana, Gujarat and Karnataka, more than 40% of the population is poor by the new composite measure, while Kerala is the only state in which the poor constitute less than 20%. The MPI measures both the incidence of poverty and its intensity. A person is defined as poor if he or she is deprived on at least 3 of the 10 indicators. By this definition, 55% of India was poor, close to double India's much-criticised official poverty figure of 29%. Almost 20% of Indians are deprived on 6 of the 10 indicators.

Nutritional deprivation is overwhelmingly the largest factor in overall poverty, unsurprising given that half of all children in India are under-nourished according to the National Family Health Survey III (2005-06). Close to 40% of those who are defined as poor are also nutritionally deprived. In fact, the contribution of nutrition to the overall MPI is even greater in urban than rural India.

A comparison of the state of Madhya Pradesh and the sub-Saharan nation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which have close to the same population and a similar MPI (0.389 and 0.393 respectively), shows that nutritional deprivation, arguably the most fundamental part of poverty, in MP far exceeds that in the DRC. Nutritional deprivation contributes to almost 20% of MP's MPI and only 5% of the DRC's MPI. MP's drinking water, electricity and child mortality levels are better than that of the DRC.

Multi-dimensional poverty is highest (81.4% poor) among Scheduled Tribes within India's Hindu population, followed by Scheduled Castes (65.8%), Other Backward Class (58.3%) and finally the general population (33.3%).

There is significant variation between the poverty incidence in various states as per the MPI and as per the Indian Planning Commission's official figures. Based on the MPI, Bihar has by far the most poor of any state in the country, with 81.4% of its population defined as poor, which is close to 12% more than the next worst state of Uttar Pradesh.

As per the Planning Commission's figures, 41.4% of Bihar and 32.8% of UP is poor. In a possible indication of inadequate access to health and education facilities which do not show up in income poverty, almost 60% of north-east India and close to 50% of Jammu & Kashmir are poor as per the MPI, while the Planning Commission figures are around 16% and 5% respectively.

The findings would provide further ballast to the argument of some economists that India's official poverty estimation methods are too narrowly focused to capture the real extent of deprivation in the country.

'More poor' in India than Africa
[linked image]

Eight Indian states account for more poor people than in the 26 poorest African countries combined, a new measure of global poverty has found.

The Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, have 421 million "poor" people, the study found.

This is more than the 410 million poor in the poorest African countries, it said.

The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) measures a range of "deprivations" at household levels.

Developed by Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) with UN support, it will feature in the upcoming UNDP Human Development Report.

The measure assess a number of "deprivations" in households - from education to health to assets and services.

"The MPI is like a high resolution lens which reveals a vivid spectrum of challenges facing the poorest households," said OPHI director Dr Sabina
