I suppose the dimensions are identical to VLS and the mechanism is pretty similar. So, what's the use of this thing then?

Just so we can show off to the rest of the world that we made it. wink.gif

In actuality, we have developed and fielded a whole variety of ship-borne missiles such as the K-ASROC and Hyunmoo-III "Sky Dragon" land-attack cruise missiles (B-version: 500km range, C-version: 1,000km range, another variant will extend it to 1,500(!)km within a few years), and a domestic VLS sysem was needed for easier integration rather than tailoring it for a foreign platform such as the MK-41... The KD-III destroyer has 80 MK-41 VLS cells for its complement of American weapons, namely the SM-2 (maybe SM-3/6 in the future), and 48 K-VLS cells aft for domestic weapons such as the K-ASROC and Hyunmoo-IIIC with more to come.

"The world Zionist movement should not be neglectful of the dangers of Pakistan to it. And Pakistan now should be its first target, for this ideological State is a threat to our existence. And Pakistan, the whole of it, hates the Jews and loves the Arabs. This lover of the Arabs is more dangerous to us than the Arabs themselves. For that matter, it is most essential for the world Zionism that it should now take immediate steps against Pakistan. Whereas the inhabitants of the Indian peninsula are Hindus whose hearts have been full of hatred towards Muslims, therefore, India is the most important base for us to work there from against Pakistan. It is essential that we exploit this base and strike and crush Pakistanis, enemies of Jews and Zionism, by all disguised and secret plans."

David Ben Gurion, the first Israeli Prime Minister, as printed in the Jewish Chronicle,9 August 1967.

There's nothing comparable to it in the world other the MK-41 and Sylver VLS, aside from of course, the cold-launch revolver mechansisms used in Russian and Chinese systems. In the end, there are only a small handful of nations that have developed its own VLS platform, and when it comes to versatility there is nothing like it other than the MK-41, Sylver and future MK-57.

I am surprised china did not murmur any protest at the range of those missiles. Them chinese always very sensitive on such issues.

If it was weak indians .. they would be crying to death and begging their master British or US to help them

but it is strong China .... won't do anything, just relax and quietly keep developing their arsenal happy.gif

China will not do anything because its pet North Korea is doing everything on their behalf. The moment the South Koreans stop thinking about their economy and decide enough is enough or by some miracle the korean unification happens, it would be then that the chinese would start feeling the jitters. North Korea serves the same purposes for China in East Asia like what Pakistan serves in South Asia- essentially semi failed states but good enough to pose as sucide bombers towards their peaceful neighbours who also happen to be China's rivals. While North Korean pet can be used againt the Japanese and the South Koreans, the Pakistani pet can be used against the Indians.

Not suprisingly, the Chinese acted as a middle man between the Pakistanis and the North Koreans. The Chinese initially proliferated Nuke technology to pakistan and Missile technology to North Korea .They then acted as a middle man in the Nukes for Missile swap between both the countries. While the pakistanis transferred the chinese nuke tech to the North Koreans, the North Koreans transferred the Chinese missile tech to the Pakistanis.
