1980s was an aberation.Historically, India-Lanka relations were close.India did not creat LTTE.LTTE was a home grown one.India supported it in 80s by training them because the then short sighted Lankan leadership tried to use the 'US card' against the Indians in the midst of cold war when the Indo-US relations were not so great ! Things changed in mid 90s only when the leadership in Lanka realised the futility of offshore balancing with respect to India and realised the advantages of friendly ties.Today, Indo-Lanka relations are one of the closest in the Indian subcontinent and the Lankan economy is pretty much integrated with Indian economy.
