Why is it that looking through the ME forum, I dont see a single military-dedicated thread ? Isnt WAFF the worlds armed forces forum ?

How about we start talking about military-related topics ? Why does everything have to be so political and racial ?

How about this for a start ? Do you think that the climate and terrain conditions of the middle east encourage or discourage the use of tank-fired laser guided and wire-guided missiles such as the Svir 9M119 (NATO designation AT-11 'Sniper') used by the T-72 against regular shells (SABOT, HEAT) when used in armored operations ? Do you think that an extension in range 4,000m for the missile vs. 3,200m for the 120mm smoothbore cannon justify the prices charged (above 200,000 dollars vs. 50,000 dollars) ?

Anyone suggest anything else ? Its a shame to see the ME forum simply degenerate into a flame-forum, while places like strategypage generate articles, research, and overall beneficial content for the international militarily-interested community.

That's a fair request my friend. Although I can seriously say I lack technical knowledge on military matters, I always find them educational.

The Middle East Forum seems to be less active in comparison to the other parts, I wonder why that is, it is certainly the most active area politically speaking in the world.

Ok Ahmed, I will give this subject a shot... but i am more of an military enthusiast then an expert.


I think laser guided munitions would be ideal for warfare in most areas f the middle east. I think that laser guided missiles would have been very useful for any army engaging the enemy in the desert after all in desert conditions there are no natural barriers and obstacles to how far you can shoot. The only limitation is the range of the weapon being used. However this would not hold for warfare in the mountainous regions of the middle east.

I know for a fact that such munitions would be useless in Iran and northern Iraq where mountainous terrain means that its rare to be able to spot and shoot enemies that far away.


My personal opinion is that tanks are actually quite useless in mountainous train. Why i think Iran should not have more then a thousand top of the line thanks.
