1- Moscow (74 billionaires)
2- New York (71 billionaires)
3- London (36 billionaires)
4- Istanbul (35 billionaires)
5- Hong Kong (30 billionaires)
6- Los Angeles (24 billionaires)
7- Bombay (20 billionaires)
8- San Francisco (19 billionaires)
9- Dallas (15 billionaires)
10- Tokyo (15 billionaires)
Istanbul (35 in 2008) is up from 25 in 2007, therefore I believe by 2009 (next year) Istanbul will outrank London and move to 3rd spot, behind Moscow and New York.

Yea... billionaires in Turkey are not some saints, sounds like Turks would open their arms to another 10 billionaires and would be happy giving up their entire life savings for them.

^ The truth hurts, huh?
Most of Russia's billionaires (ex-KGB oligarchs) today were poorer than me only 20 years ago, whereas Turkey's industrial conglomerates like Sabanci, Koç, Eczacibasi etc. were exactly who they are today even in the 1940s.

If you want to imply that they are the "masters" and I am a "servant", I'm actually quite happy and satisfied with my living standards, so the fact that they are becoming "billionaires" doesn't bother me at all.
It actually makes me happy because we need such industrialists to open more factories and create more jobs.
Note that communism found equality in poverty, not wealth. A healthy capitalist economy needs both wealthy industrialists to open new factories, and the necessary feasible working force to keep them going.

Siege of Tobruk - One German POW said: "I cannot understand you Australians. In Poland, France, and Belgium, once the tanks got through the soldiers took it for granted that they were beaten. But you are like demons. The tanks break through and your infantry still keep fighting." Rommel wrote of seeing "a batch of some fifty or sixty Australian prisoners ... marched off close behind us—immensely big and powerful men, who without question represented an elite formation of the British Empire, a fact that was also evident in battle."

No one becomes a billionaire off their own labor power. These few dozen Turko billionaires are accumulating the surplus labor of millions of Turks. Millions of Turks are taking home a meager salary while these Turk billionaires who own the controlling assets of the stocks or firms take the rest.
And then the Turkish immigrants in Europe they brag for this. Why? Because they are idiots and want to make pathetic attempts to prove to the world Turkey is modern and Westernized(because they know the opposite is the truth).
Now since you like to brag for billionaires in Turkey you should know that in these equations the expenses column is where that payroll for employees(or millions of salaried Turks) and all paid for supplies are part of this column and are a subtraction equation. This explains how most the population who is not billionaires receive their salary. Now how do the billionaires get their money according to these equations?(Can any bragging Turk answer this simple question) Most billionaires are not so off of any salary but from modern advanced forms of usury which enable them to profit from the labor of others who are reduced to selling their labor power as salaried employees to make their living, while the billionaires control assets(or capital according to Marx).

Every individual person is responsible for his/her own personal earnings in life.
I'm quite satisfied with my living standards, and I'm happy that the industrialist families (and their conglomerates) in Turkey are getting richer. This means more factories, more investment, more jobs, more economic growth.
Significant investments aren't made by people who earn €1000 per month, they are made by the billionaire industrialists.
Re: Forbes: Cities with the most USD billionaires in the world
April 17 2008, 7:57 PM
No one becomes a billionaire off their own labor power, so it is stupid for anyone to say that these billionaires "create jobs". Even if they "create jobs", the workers will take home a fixed salary and the top of the corporate structure will keep the surplus profit.
More billionaires especially in a country like Turkey means more in-equality. Likewise more Tuaf35 postings gives dividends in more stupidity.

From a "piggy" point of view, Turkey has the ideal mix for rapid economic growth:
1) Wealthy industrialists to open new factories and make new investments.
2) Cheap labour to keep these businesses running at high revs, despite challenging competition from China and India.
Currently the minimum wage in Turkey is higher than in nine EU member states though, therefore Turkey isn't exactly a heaven to invest in terms of cheap labour; on the contrary it's becoming more and more expensive as life standards are rising. Turkey also has serious shortages in terms of energy resources and the Turks are using the most expensive petroleum and natural gas in the world (#1) due to heavy taxation from the Turkish state, and this is another major burden on the shoulders of the Turkish industrial conglomerates.
Re: Forbes: Cities with the most USD billionaires in the world
April 17 2008, 8:04 PM
The over-expensive petroleum and natural gas prices in Turkey are also lowering the GDP-PPP figures of Turkey from potentially much higher figures (on the contrary, in Iran, cheap energy makes miracles in terms of their GDP-PPP figures, which are almost 4 times their Nominal GDP figures)
how can europe's poorest country have billionaires? a country with most number of poor people in europe, and begging europe for decades for entry into european union can NOT have billionaires by legal and equitable means. perhaps they're plunderers of wealth of ordinary poor people of that nation?
how come so many billionaires exist in london or new york? moscow it's understandable, of course, russia is the new economic, military, political powerhouse of this world. so it's complete understandable. it will soon be the largest economy in europe I hope.

Russia is an exception. Russian billionaires are chosen people by state(mostly Jewish). Russian people also think they are thieves. Millions of Russians are working for less than $2 a day. If it hadn't been for oil&natural gas, metallurgy, soviet weaponry, uranium, heroin, drugs smuggling, mafia...etc. Russia couldn't have been different than it's counterparts Ukraine and Belarus.
Re: Forbes: Cities with the most USD billionaires in the world
April 19 2008, 4:55 PM
Correction: Russian billionaires are mostly ex KGB agents who seized the petroleum and natural gas companies that were formerly owned by the Soviet state, forming a new class of wealthy opportunists.
Most of Russia's billionaires today were poorer than me only 20 years ago.
Similarly, the current dictators in the Central Asian republics are also ex KGB agents.

Turkey is far more different than $20 wage Russia. That must be why Turkish men say "DA" while they are working with Russians. It all depends on oil prices for Russia, nothing else...and also thanks to Turkish businessmen who invest money in a mafia heaven.

On his homepage Omer Asan ( http://www.omerasan.com/ ) set out to find out what language he spoke, even at Turkish universities no one know because of the ridicilous imposition of Kemalist ideology. He learned through "research"(LOL) that he spoke a Pontian Greek dialect.

Turkey has the highest minimum wage in Eastern Europe and administrators in Turkey gets one of the highest salaries in the world, above all EU countries.
Turkey's GDP per capita (PPP) is not as high as it is in terms of reality. Namely, everybody don't pay taxes in Turkey although amnesty law passes in every 4-5 years. Government increases taxes by implication. Then nobody pays taxes. Consequently, the government has to put indirect taxes. Turkish people use one of the most expensive water, electricty, fuel oil...etc. in the world and for instance, buying an autmobile in any EU country is much cheaper than buying an automobile in Turkey. Therefore, purchasing power calculatings reflects on indicators.
For another example, world's most expensive houses are located in Bosphorus but strangely no Turkish billionaires live there though they can easily afford them. Because if they buy one of them for an astronomic figure, then tax assessors will start investigating their resources.
Even not to mention informal economy and missing calculations. Turkey is the most self-employed country in the world and businesses which employ less than 10 employees are not counted. Counting system gives %5 error every year since they are not updated annually. Illegal sectors are not counted as national income unlike EU countries...and so on.
Re: Forbes: Cities with the most USD billionaires in the world
November 6 2008, 5:25 PM
At the country level, the purchasing power of Turkey's 73 million people is not particularly impressive, given the low per capita GDP (some US$4,900), and low average monthly wage (around US$900).

It's not a bragging but world news. Neither history, nor economy and nor any situation of Turkey matches with the definition of a third world country.
Considering it has always been a colony, it's rather Greece that's suitable for a third world country. Turkey is not a nation who is bragging about being others' patch like Greece does. They are Greeks who count how much cents does their GDP per capita higher and judge people with their income. That's understandable up to point however because Greece had always been a starving country everybody wants to leave untill recent years. Such characteristics are peculiar to third world countries as well. Although hundred billion of dollars external aid, Greece is still the poorest and least educated member of 15s EU as well as one of the worst infrastructures and most backward country in Europe.
No matter how Turkey had supplied tons of aid to Greece and provided food for 700,000 people per day when they were starving to death under German and British rule, Greeks can't stand with anything good about Turkey due to their incredible inferioty complex toward Turks. Many nations hate their ex-rulers but that's much worse among Greeks in order for their illness nationwide. Even their way of speech points out what a low-down and unworthy nation Greeks are...and unfortunately they are our neighbours.
Re: Forbes: Cities with the most USD billionaires in the world

FYI the minimum wage in Turkey is 420YTL Net, and with the current exchange rate is 211 euro per month. Thats the minimum wage that probably only applies in the big cities and big industry. I doubt it will be the norm in the plethora of backwaters found in Turkey.
This is an article from 2007, but makes some interesting points:
-The Turkish cost of labour is slowing employment growth. A high minimum wage in relation to the median wage is having negative effects on the labour market. Low-skilled workers are suffering in particular from the high labour costs, since businesses are reluctant to employ them.
-Labour costs are an important part of the flexibility of a labour market. If labour costs are too high, particularly the low-skilled will be excluded from the labour market.
-The official unemployment rate conceals the fact that unemployment is up to 70.0% in some rural areas

nice people ..I hope things go that way ... because Billionaires there at least are not doing what the arabs are doing ...big towers in the middle of the desert!!
keep going like that ....I know that things are getting better in Turkey ...the only thing I'm afraid is if something like what happened with Iran in the 80's ..the revolution, will put the extremists in power!!!
otherwise they can have as many Bill. as they may wish. And I do hope that one day they eventually will join EU.
