No UK Regular Unit carried out combat mission in Vietnam post 1946 is a bit closer to the mark.

During the time of the Vietnam War in the time fram of the '60s
MI6 were active in the area, the RAF flew Recon Missions in the Area.
The RN was active in South China Sea in a non combat role (extra eyes and ear always help).

The USA is the Bigest of the UKs Children. It is also the most independent and brash so why not let the USA help the UK and Visa Versa.

no, that's exactly the contrary: in the 1956 Suez crisis Britain submitted and decided that nothing is possible without US approval while France got upset by the British give up and made the oath to do everything she could so that she could act despite US opposition.
As for the Falkland war, the US British relationship was about to deteriorate very fast because the US support was a little slow to come while the french immediately supported Britain despite this was a big blow to our reputation as arm exporter (a price I think we are still paying today but no choice)

Now I understand Britain, like other, tries to have good relations with the US but what make me laugh is when they think it's so "special" and when they think they could have more influence on the States than on Europe. The Brits didn't accustomed us with such a naivety and the US play with it.
