ITALY-ALBANIA: 7 MLN EURO FOR PROJECTS FOR ARMY IN 2007
(ANSAmed) - TIRANA, JUNE 17 - The sum which Italy, through the Italian Delegation of Experts (DIE), invested in 2007 in favour of the Albanian armed forces, amounts to some 7 million euro, reads a statement announced by DIE, which will present its annual 2007 report tomorrow. Considering the fact that the accession of Albania to NATO remains the main objective of the Albanian authorities, the activities planned and developed by DIE in the Land of the Eagles, last year, were most characterised, compared to the past, by a logic of partnership. In 2007 Italy invested some 4.2 million euro in projects coordinated with the Albanian General Staff in the different sectors of intervention, organising training courses, offering supply of materials and equipment, and implementing infrastructure works. Some 1 million euro were necessary to support binding projects in the sector of devices and explosives clearance, in the health sector and motorisation, granted to the Albanian armed forces.
