Russia V Sweden

The last two teams that can go through, this should be an aggressive match or it could be stifled by Sweden's way of playing. What do you guys think will happen?

Siege of Tobruk - One German POW said: "I cannot understand you Australians. In Poland, France, and Belgium, once the tanks got through the soldiers took it for granted that they were beaten. But you are like demons. The tanks break through and your infantry still keep fighting." Rommel wrote of seeing "a batch of some fifty or sixty Australian prisoners ... marched off close behind us—immensely big and powerful men, who without question represented an elite formation of the British Empire, a fact that was also evident in battle."

I'm all for Sweden. If Ibrahimovic is 100% he can make the difference. If I was the coach, I would use more Källström - he's not only a very good player, but is very dangerous in free kicks and long-range shots.
I was expecting a little more from Elmander, but maybe against Russia he improves. Larsson is in visible decline. The keeper Isaksson is spectacular.

So many teams are playing dirty in the Euro cup like Turks or the Italians that I just want Russia to play a fair game and walk away with heads held up high, the Austrians did just that. The Swedes will probably end up have a 1 or 2 goal lead, hopefully Russia will get at least 1 goal in.

Russias current generation of footballers is quite good, particularly Arshavin and Pogrebnyak.

I predict a Swedish win.

Though I could well be wrong. Russia are a relatively good side.

***********************

Communism has stamped its mark on the 20th century-a mark of aggression and cruelty, bloodshed and tears. Historians have estimated that its ideology has caused the death of 120 million people since the Russian Revolution of 1917. These casualties include not only soldiers killed on battlefields, but citizens murdered by their own governments. The whole world has seen the pitiless slaughter carried out by Communist leaders. One hundred million men and women, from the elderly to young people and infants, lost their lives to this cold, hard, savage ideology. Communist regimes have deprived tens of millions of their most basic rights and freedoms, ejecting people from their homes and systematically subjecting them to famines, slavery in labor camps and imprisonment. Millions have been the targets of Communist guerilla groups and terrorist organizations, and still others have lived in the fear of becoming targets for their bullets.

What are this ideology's roots? Where was Communism born? How did such a cruel, bloodthirsty worldview find adherents and supporters throughout the world? Why did it come to power and flourish, dragging millions in its wake? How did it come to an end, with the collapse of the Soviet Union? Or has it really ended, or does it still threaten every country on earth?

I want Sweden to win, is it me or does Hiddink come out as being rather arrogant and a sore loser?

Swedes will win because Russia doesnt have Pogreybnyak to score, the best outcome Russia can hope for is a tie which still wont help. The Swedes on the other hand have good strikers and even Akinfeev wont save us.

Russians will win it.

Onward Chartered Soldiers, on to heathen lands,
Prayer books in your pockets, rifles in your hands.
Take the glorious tidings where trade can be done,
Spread the peaceful gospel --- with a Maxim gun.

Tell the wretched natives, sinful are their hearts,
Turn their heathen temples into spirit marts.
And if to your teaching they will not succumb,
Give them another sermon with the Maxim gun...

When the Ten Commandments they quite understand,
You their Chief must hocus, and annex their land;
And if they misguided call you to account,
Give them another sermon --- with a Maxim from the Mount

Russia's pessimism strikes again. Russia is going pretty well.

Siege of Tobruk - One German POW said: "I cannot understand you Australians. In Poland, France, and Belgium, once the tanks got through the soldiers took it for granted that they were beaten. But you are like demons. The tanks break through and your infantry still keep fighting." Good win, whether they get smashed by the higher class teams is yet to be seen.

I've seen Russia defend awfully, when they play better opponents that will take advantage of this major frailty. Spain has already exposed it, as did England when they played in Wembley.

Russia took Sweden apart on the counterattack. Netherlands is also counter attack minded, so it will be interesting to see what happens when they play each other. But more importantly so far every single game I've had a gut feeling about has turned out to be as I predicted. I have a very strong gut feeling that my $500 bet on Portugal winning the whole thing will cash in.

Russia played very well today and Im proud of our team, I still dont think they are any match for a an experienced team like the Dutch. I think they play beautiful soccer and will win the whole tournament, Portugal isnt on the same level.

I agree with Filin.

Russia are a good side and have proved it.

I also look at football from a mental viewpoint. The Russians got beaten 4-1 by the Spaniards but still came back.

However as Filin said Holland are on a different level to Portugal, and I expect them to beat both Russia and Portugal.

But as we saw today...I was wrong in my prediction for today and might well be wrong again.

We have a young team, in fact the youngest from all the 16 countries, to make it to the quarter-finals is already a huge accomplishment. They played nice touch football today and I was impressed by that, my prediction for the Netherlands game is 2 to 1 for the Dutch if they play like they did today.

That is a very good thing, means this team will grow with one another for the future years, will lose this 'hogging' the ball mentality, Russia very well may become a powerful foot balling nation once more. I for one hope so, we need a few new power houses in Europe and just like the economies, these nations lie in the East.
