If we ignore international trade (since international trade uses virtual rather real money), this ratio should represent the ratio of tourists from the respective country to the Belgian population in your town and vicinity. Of course, you need something like a 1000 coins for the ratio to be fairly accurate.

All British currency, I have a 20 centile somewhere, it's pretty useless to me though
Wouldn't wipe my ass with Sterling.
That's right you wouldn't, because it has significant value to you since you a British resident, albeit of GayReek origin.
I meant fight in a political sense.
But luckily the UK at this time and for the foreseeable future is overwhelmingly pro Sterling.
Even the pro-Europeans from the UK (e.g Gordon Brown) accept that the Euro will not work as a British currency. Any attempt to scrap the pound would go extremely badly with the population and would most likely result in the UK moving further from Europe rather than closer to it. I'm surprised people are still talking about the idea of the UK in the Euro, the idea died years ago.

I hardly think you'd have riots in the streets.
Most Europeans were against the idea of a single currency when it was first forced upon them but they didn't go round tearing down the Eiffel Tower and the Brandenburg Gate.
I reckon we'd get used to it.
I mean seriously, we've lost the shilling, the penny-farthing, the crown etc etc, what's the difference with the pound?

Do you Brits think we sacrificed the D-Mark for fun ? Certainly not, as it was loved by anyone (and has even reached a mythical component nowadays). But what we have with the Euro is a really power currency, that is even accepted in places like Cuba, and basically every tourist region whereever it may be on this world. It is seen equal or even superior to the US Dollar, and that alone is something I would say that our single European currencies did never archieve, and the British Pound does not at the moment.

I don't get it either, why are the Brits stuck in the past? You should try moving on like the rest of Europe does.
It would also be better for the economy. Many Belgian tourists don't like going to the Uk because they have to change currency and can't compare prices.
Same goes up for me, I've actually never been to London, while it's just a few hours away from where I live with the eurostar. I just don't want to go through it all to change my money just for an afternoon in London. In the time I do that I'm already in Paris walking on the champs elysees .

I don't think this is the thread for this debate IMHO, maybe a new one should be opened.....although we won't change their mind about it, and they won't change ours....it's natural.

I have to agree with the bulk of that. Except the pound is still valuable. It is actually the third largest currency reserve after the Dollar and th Euro and the fourth most traded currency after the Dollar, Euro and Yen.
Having said that, I have nothing in principle against adopting the Euro as the thought of hanging on to the pound for the sake of an irrational emotional attachment does nothing for me.
What I do think however is that it devolves sovereignty. Depends if you're a good little European Federalist or not I suppose...
TBH, I can't see how it would impact on my life that greatly if the UK were to adopt it tomorrow, to be quite frank. Consequently I don't care one way or the other.

The Pound is very much the currency of the present as it is legal tender. The fact that Europe introduced a new currency for itself does not mean everyone else is stupid for not begging to be part of it. Maybe the Euro just isn't right for every country.
If you wanted to come to the UK then you would do, changing currency presents an extremely minor step in the process, it takes around the same time as buying a drink from a shop! It could actually be argued that the UK having a different currency encourages tourism as the currency makes it seem something other than just another European state with the same currency as their home. Much more likely reasons for not coming to the UK are travel times or travel costs due to having to take a train or ferry rather than just driving across the border. Maybe the European Union, if so caring about the British tourist industry, should build the UK a bridge

That's really the most stupid coin design in the world. In reality it looks much weirder than even on this picture. When I first saw it, I thought someone had messed with the coin because it really looks like a knife damaged the coin. Anyway, knowing the working of the EU, I bet they paid an "artist" a lot of money to design this coin.

The Euro coins are ok, the notes feel slightly cheap though, at least relative to UK notes and from what I've heard also US notes.

Finally my count lol:
4x Dutch
2x Belgian
1x German
1x Irish
1x Spanish
Must say I don't see many Spanish coins down here.
As for the discussion, I was against the introduction of the Euro back then. Life did get more expensive after its introduction, but it's hard to determine whether that's caused notably by a new currency. Anyway, I feared ditching the Guilder would be a blow to some sort of national identity. Although I sometimes think about the money I used for so long, I now feel your own currency doesn't make or brake your identity. In the end, it's just a currency we're talking about and the Euro is a solid one. You get used to using it, believe me.

Lol I doubt it.
And yeah it might not be the easiest step, to adopt the euro, but eventually you have to think about the bigger picture, about a strong europe, well anyways, that's how I think.
And yeah, some of those special eurocoins do look like they were made by a 5-year old, but I like it how we can see which coin originates from which country.
