A tree planted in a Polish town in honor of Adolf Hitler's birthday has received its death sentence.

The local government of Jaslo, a southeastern Polish town, wants to fell and burn the 67-year-old oak tree, which was brought by the Nazi occupying force from the Austrian town where Hitler grew up. Jaslo's mayor, Maria Kurowska, wants to uproot the town's Nazi past by removing the tree and planting a new tree to be dedicated to the memories of Polish officers who were killed by Soviet police in April 1940. The mayor did not mention whether a new tree would be dedicated to the memories of the town's Jewish citizens murdered during the Holocaust.

However, not all agree with the mayor's decision. "The tree has not hurt anyone and is not guilty of anything," a protest organizer said. Kazimierz Polak is appealing to the municipality to preserve the tree. "It is growing healthy and tall. Let it grow."

Polak, 81, remembers when the tree was brought to his town in a gift-wrapped box. Two years later, as the Red Army was approaching, the Nazis ordered the town to be plundered. When the last Germans fled Jaslo, only 39 out of the 1,200 homes remained. Polak considers the tree to be one of the few historic artifacts of the town.

Mayor Kurowska, on the other hand, argues that the tree's symbolism wrongly honors the Nazi leader. In addition, she argues, it obstructs drivers' views from a nearby traffic circle. It's only a tree; we have hundreds of them here," Kurowska said. "Instead, I can plant trees in honor of Hitler's victims."

Prior to World War II, 28 of Jaslo's 48 shops were Jewish-owned. Jaslo's 19 Jewish restaurants and taverns were well-known among the locals and catered mainly to peasants. On August 22, 1942, of the approximate 2,000 Jewish families in Jaslo, 150 able-bodied people were sent home, while the remainder were shipped to the Belzec concentration camp's gas chambers.

Not one Jew remained, not even a memorial to the Jewish community that once existed there.

Funny how Europe defends Muslim terrorists, but not a tree. Where is the Green party? A thousand years from now no one will care what happened in WW2, this would be a major historical site.

Maybe the politicians know that Poland will be a Muslim country in the future and that the future Islamic Republic of New Egypt will likely turn the tree into an Islamic pilgramage site and say Hitler said shahada before he killed himself and that he killed lots of Jews so must be respected. So they want to destroy it before it happens and they are forced to say shahada

Poland has less then 50,000 muslims and most are ethnic tartars who have fought for the Polish Crown and Republic's.

The Tartars died for that White Crowned Eagle and swore a Muslim soldiers oath (only one in Europe along with a Jewish Oath) to the Polish Republic and Polish-Lithuanian Crown.

They were patriotic to the Fatherland and deserve respect.

Polish Tatars don't care about Turkish pride, they were after all fighting the Ottomans as did the Russian Tatars. There brand of Islam is rather weak.

anyways I was referring to the flood of third world parasites moving in there as asylum seekers and using gullible women for visas by marrying them, then abandoning them. I even saw a chatroom called "Egypt loves Poland" and it was full of Egyptian guys waiting for Polish women to come in so they could propose marriage to them lol

There are more vietnamese and chinese immigrants then Muslim, which most come from Turkey, former Soviet States and Bosnia, with little to none from the Middle East proper.

Even then, 95% of Poland is Polish, 4% other European and 1% (at best) non-European. Basically Poland is homogenous at is almost unique in this world for being so mono-cultured, only Japan comes to mind.

Custodians are supposed to maintain what they have been entrusted with, not allow Tatars to settle there, and then rename the city. I'm upset!

It was called Gdansk first and Danzig second, after all, the Germans settled after to Polish and Slavic tribes

Tartars are Polish. Kind of like Germanised Balt Prussians are German.

Before German nationalism radicalised Polish nationalism, Polish was a cultural group (not racial) that regarded anyone who spoke Polish or regarded themselves as Polish to be Polish. Eventually the ridiculous concept of 'Blood right' came into being in Poland around World War 1 where stupid things like religion some how tainted your blood. Up until then Jews were Polish like a Catholic was, religion played no part in the definition of a Pole like it does today (to be Polish is to be Catholic or at least Christian).

I call the blood right stupid because most Poles have a non-Slavic or non-West Slavic background (based on geography), mostly Baltic, Ruthenian or German. Polish was about assimilation. Hell, there once was 200,000 Armenian's in Poland, most completely assimilated.

Many Tartars still have soldiery tradition as well as speak the mother tongue who happen to be Muslim rather then Catholic.
