The most popular way to hide it without CRA issue is for a business owner associated with the team - perhaps the owner, coach, or a major sponsor - to "hire" the player in question for a "part time job". The "job" then shockingly pays an inordinate amount of money for little to no actual work performed. But there's nothing illegal about that. And as far as the OJHL is concerned, the players aren't getting paid to play hockey.
And no, that's not what happened in Kingston, in case anyone thinks that's what I'm implying. But in plenty of other markets it has.
Unsurprisingly, there is absolutely no desire on the part of the league to do anything about it.
