Phoney tickets
Last Updated: Wednesday, March 22, 2000 | 9:18 AM ET

CBC News

The Toronto police have charged a man for allegedly selling phoney tickets to Raptors and Maple Leafs games.
Investigators say a man passed himself off as an agent for the company that operates the Air Canada Centre.

Someone called local companies with an offer of rare seats to the arena's hockey and basketball games and concerts.

Police say about 40 people, mostly small business owners, bought tickets and a man collected more than $2 million.

42 year old Peter Mavroudis is charged with nine counts of fraud over $5,000.

Charges laid over Leafs tickets
Toronto -- A Georgetown, Ont., man is accused of defrauding a company of $172,000 after claiming he held the rights to sell premium seats for Toronto Maple Leafs hockey games. York Regional police say the accused operated a company called Prime Ticket Connection in Whitby. Police say the victim, the president of a Vaughan company, was told that Prime Ticket Connection had the rights to sell seats for Leafs home games at the Air Canada Centre. Police say the victim then turned over $172,000 to purchase the seats and never received the tickets. Peter Mavroudis, 49, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000, forgery, and uttering forged documents.

Will it finally now end? Let him have his day in court then throw away the key. There are so many of these kind of guys hovering around the minor hockey rinks it isn't funny. Parents beware, ask other parents who have been around for a couple of years who to stay away from there are plenty.

Do you know of anyone who has been scammed by this guy? My wife's cousin was clipped for about 80 Grand. Is there anyway to find out if the charges laid have resulted in a conviction.

Is there anything you can suggest to help him get some of his money back? Does he have to file his own charges etc.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gerry
