Why would the NCAA scouts want to watch these teams of hired guns play ?
Hurts all teams

Ha ha, you want us to believe that this is true and you just happen to know all the amounts. Let's face the obvious here - if it was happening, YOU wouldn't know about it. The truth, of course, is that players in their final year want to come and play for a team that has a reasonable chance to going a long way.
Smells like more Port Hope crapola to me. I heard the Port Hope staff want to change the team colours to green to hide their new complexions.

...some Jr B and Jr C payrolls are higher than Jr A. Jr A teams pay ex-OHL players "education" money. How else do yo attract these players?
In Jr C there are players that have come from the O and Jr A and B because of $cash$...who needs a scholarship when you can get paid to play while going to school...the range varies from about $2,000 to $5,000/yr for "certain" players, but those amounts have been increasing recently.
...cash paid to players is a taboo subject in Jr hockey but is becoming more and more prevalent.
Axxer is not whistling Dixie.

So tell me how a player in the OHL at $50 a week is "contaminated" in the eyes of the NCAA, yet a player in the OHA is not contaminated at $500 a week?
Just curious.

Heard it directly myself from 2 buds of the players
what they are getting in Muskie land, why would anyone
be surprized, Meyers is good at it, done it all before
and will win at all cost at everyones expense
Everyone close to a manager knows that Love and Mussels
shopped themselves to all the highest bidders, who knows
what his Captain is getting? he would be the most
experienced at Meyers patty whacky the boys on the
team bike-aroo roos
No jealousy, just an observation that has all been seen before,
Good for the Fish if they can pull it off, not
Good for the rest of the teams or the players
And the NCAA

Blah blah blah. "Heard it directly from 2 buds" So that would be third-hand news then? Yawn. Like, man, yeah, that's like real rock solid info, that is.

...there are two distinct payments to OHL players; a weekly allowance of about $50-$105 (varies depending on circumstances) and the education money that gets paid to the post-secondary institution upon entrance to the school. Education money ranges from $5,000-$15,000 per year. The NCAA argues that the weekly allowance is a pay cheque. They might be right since I hear that the players get a T4 slip for these payments.
...there is a famous case of a player named Brody Todd from Thorold who bounced around and played for several OHL teams (some coaches alleged that Brody had no work ethic and liked to party too much). He was not paid education money owing to him. Brody sued the O and got all his money in a matter of days as the matter was settled in court. Acadia University got a tuition cheque from the OHL shortly thereafter.
In the NCAA if you goof off they pull your scholarship since it is a year-to-year renewal.
...there is a longstanding rumour circulating in the OHL that Patrick Kane got $100,000 cash from London to report. I find that one far-fetched but not beyond the realm of possibility.

I think they may have over paid for Love. He's less than a point a game guy. He was sent out of Seguin because of attitude and may have had the same problem in Aurora. The others may be worth it.They are a good team but may end up like Huntsville last year.

To my knowledge, yes, there are players being paid in the OJHL. Historically, the above-board teams pay a stipend, allowance, "education allowance", or other living expense to players who are NOT being recruited or scouted any longer, usually overagers who know their opportunities have come and gone and will take whatever opportunity they can get to be seen by the minor pro leagues, and get their education on the side as well. The extra money comes in handy for gas, etc.
However, there have ALWAYS been those teams who attract the best players by paying large sums of money. Sometimes, this is done through the back door, sometimes it is direct. I've heard of situations where a player, who worked for his dad in the summer, was "not" being paid by the team, but the team overpaid for an extraordinary amount of the father's business over the winter, and then the kid got a huge "bonus" cheque from his dad for working in the summer.
Another team, from what I heard, gave billets an unusually high amount of money, more than what most billets are paid. The billets would then give the player large "gifts" at Christmas, birthdays, end of the hockey season, etc.
Another story I heard was a Jr. A owner who owned a business, and held a huge ceremony and photo-op to present the "winner" of a contest with his prize. I can't remember the prize, but all you need to know is this...1) nobody seemed to know that there even had been a contest, until the "winner" was announced, 2) the "winner" played on his Jr. A hockey team, and 3) the "winner" chose the cash equivalent of the prize. I can't remember for sure, but I do believe the NCAA actually caught the stench of that one and cancelled his eligibility.
The point is, paying players has become common practice in Jr. A hockey, and no matter how many loopholes you close, others are always going to open up for those who look for them.
