What is availible to 16 year olds outside of Jr A hockey in the form of developmental hockey? If it is Jr B and C then what is the mandate on age restriction of thier league's and is the idea in these leagues to deveop the younger(16year old) kids?
also, what is the step down from Jr.A,Jr.B, Jr.C leagues and what is the amount of teams/leagues available to this age group to develop thier skills?
The reason I ask is that there is alot of reference to the fact that JrA is suppose to be a developmental league for young kids But is not every league below the NHL not a developmental league? Case in point is debate on wether or not the Leafs should of sent the 18 year old Luke Schenn to the OHL for more "development".
From what I see is there has always been a mix of "older" players in with the "younger" up and commers from the AHL down. My personal opinion is that its good have a mix of older and younger. I also feel the younger players gain valuable skills and knowledge from the more experienced older players to assist in thier development. If you had a league where only 16 yr olds played against 16 yr olds and so on, how do they gain the nessasary skills that only an older more experienced player can give them.
Is the Jr A,B,C leagues to the OHL not unlike the OHL/AHL is to the NHL? And is the midget AAA, AA, A on so on not the true developmental leagues for these 16 yrs old kids?
