For those interested in $$$$ in hockey, have a look at this article from the CBC.

Big bucks behind the bench in the GTHL

Where the hell have these guys been all this time? You'd have to have your head up your a$$ not to know what's been going on all of this time! There are coaches who openly brag about the $80,000 they earn from their owners each year, which for the hours involved and the pittance that many of these riff raffs are capable of earning at a REAL job, it doesn't amount to as much as most of us EARN, believe me!

I'd take the educated, skilled labor route anyday over these glorified quad rink panhandlers! The ONLY thing that concerns me personally in all of this is the naive, pipe dream parents who can't seem to comprehend the idea that their kids chances of going anywhere are slim and ....... NONE!

They're constantly being fed a line that their kids the greatest, when in reality he's just another beer league cast off! (teehee)

Oh and by the way Bob (hopi2041) I never realized before how good looking you are! What a flattering avatar you have! lol

Are you paying income taxes on your stipend Mr. Coach?

...I wonder how many of these "paid" coaches are declaring their income in their personal income tax returns. I wonder if they get a T4 issued to them like the rest of us working stiffs.

If CRA ever did an investigation I know it would get ugly...I see some of these GTHL coaches are driving Hummers...hmmmmmm!

Its time to call Irving R. Shyster.

"If a parent group wants to get together and decide they want to recruit a coach and spend money on it, that coach first of all has to be proofed by us," says Chraba. "We also go to the coach and say, 'This is not right. We're tolerating it for this year only.'"

So really what thier saying is coaches are being paid by rich parents to garentee lots of ice time for thier kid(s). and by letting this go for "this year only" it absolves them from any moral dilemma? Please!!!!!it only promotes it!!

"The problem isn't when coaches are paid to cover their expenses, the problem is when you get a coach that really wants to take advantage of parents because of his expertise and charges extra money.

who is taking advantage of whom? we assume that the coaches are solicitating fees. But what about the rich parents that dangle huge amounts of money in the face of a coach? If your coaching and some kids parent offers 30,000 grand to get their son more playing time even the most credible coach can give in to temptation with a huge tax free winfall like that.To make us believe that coaches are the only ones responsible for this misdeed is absurd and down right niave to say the least.

DON'T ALLOW ANYONE TO PAY THE COACH AT ANYTIME AND THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!

maybe we should adopt some policies from the NCAA for when players/parents get caught accepting endorsements and apply it to anyone who falls into this category: coaches, kids, and the organization be held accountable for such indiscretions

Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each
