This years skate will represent the second consecutive year of expansion with our annual event now be referred to as the "Skate In The Park"S" At Dark", as we are pleased to welcome aboard Storybook Gardens in London as part of our efforts and vision to fulfill as many dreams as possible through the Sunshine Dreams For Kids Foundation. Through the generous donations of so many dedicated supporters, our annual 300 mile, 19 hour test of endurance is hopeful of filling as many Dreams as possible through Sunshine Dreams.

Although details have not been confirmed as of yet, we are hopeful that in the future, Windsor, Halifax and Vancouver will also join us as we continue in our goal of one day having several cities accross this vast country of ours evolve into a National event! For now however, we won't look too far ahead as we have secured our ice permit at Gage Park in Brampton, as well as the necessary documentation for Storybook Gardens in London, which has a picturesque rink comparable to that at Bramptons Gage Park .... Take a look for yourself ......

Throughout the past decade we have been bringing the kids of Sunshine who suffer from physical/mental challenges or life threatening illnesses dreams to life from the proceeds generated at our annual event. With London sistering up with us to complete the 1,000 lap (500 kilometer) skate, we will have completed the distance in each of our own parks to skate to the other cities outdoor skating trail!

We look to continue the tradition and expansion of fulfilling the dreams of such deserving kids! If you are able to make a monetary donation, please click on the PayPal donation tab located in the header of our "In The Cage" forum. Or if you are able to donate prizes to our raffle table then please contact me directly at thayward13@cogeco.ca  and I will make arrangements to pick up any and all donated gifts!

The addition of London this year is beyond my wildest dreams back when we started this thing in 1997, but only fuels the desire to expand the skate to one day  include all of the major cities across Canada!

For any organization or business wishing to contribute to our event, tax receipts will be issued by Sunshine Dreams, and your name will appear on one of our two appreciation banners which are displayed throughout the duration of the skate.

This years "Skate In The Park'S' At Dark" will commence at 8:00 P.M. on Saturday the 14th of February 2009, and conclude at approximately 3:00 P.M. on Sunday the 15th. We are hoping that a couple of team members from our Brampton contingent can commence the skate in Brampton, then drive to London to skate through the night, and then return home on the Sunday morning to catch the final leg in Brampton!

Thanks to everyone for your past contributions and hoping that you can join us again this year! I know that it seems so far off in the distance time wise, but as we close in on the Christmas season, we only have a few weeks until the skate, with ALOT  of work yet to do!

So please, if you can (and I do understand that times are tough for so many right now, but this too shall pass) please make a donation through PayPal by clicking on one of the two tabs above.

Thank You!

13th Annual SKATE IN THE PARK AT DARK

8:00 pm, Saturday, February 14 to 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 15, 2009: 1,000 Laps of Gage Park!

Gage Park, Brampton, Ontario

This event originated in Brampton 13 years ago with skaters completing 1,000 laps of Gage Park the equivalent of skating from Brampton to Montreal a remarkable feat!

Objective:  In addition to raising much-needed funds and awareness for children who are challenged by severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses, the ultimate goal for Skate in the Park at Dark is to grow the event and attract enough skaters from their respective communities to skate a distance equivalent to skating across Canada!

I posted this in another thread, Tony, but for every playoff win this season by either my former employer, Pickering Panthers, or current employer, Whitby Fury, I will donate $10 out of my own pocket. I challenge other fans to do the same, if Pickering or Whitby score a few upsets in the playoffs, I could be donating a nice sum.

T, in these economic times people will be tightening their belts.
It may be difficult to give to one charity and not the other so the party does not give to any.
Now I recently heard that an abuse of tax receipts in some areas may end this practice.

We can ALWAYS rely on you to put a positive spin on things eh 'Dog? Holy sh%t you'd have to have your head up your a$$ not to be aware of the current economic climate going on in the world today!

I don't believe that I've held a gun to anyones head or anyhting, just enquiring as to whether there is any interest in supporting the skate .... that's all dog! So far we have a very good sponsorship foundation here in London, and I would anticipate the same for Brampton as we get closer to the skate!

A donation, is what it is 'Dog! The Sunshine Dreams For Kids Foundation is a registered legitimate charity who WILL most certainly issue tax receipts to ANY sponsor who makes a donation to the skate! Is that a little too difficult for you to understand Wexdog?
