I'm surprised the Rangers have signed him. They are up hard against the cap and would need to dump some salary first before they signed him. I haven't heard any of this happening so far.

The Rangers won't have to dump salary they'll just announce the reaquisition of Avery and all the high priced talent will ask to be traded, or just leave...

Actually, I heard Bob McCowan last night on Prime Time Sports on the fan while I was driving to the Fury game, and he was apologizing for presenting this as fact earlier in the week. He said it was passed on to him by a source he thoroughly trusts, and whose information is usually as reliable as any in the business. In fact, he said that the source is in the top ten of the recent list of powerful people in hockey.
