Well at last, the long awaited return of his royalty Mats Sundin to the NHL has been bestowed upon us ..... yeah and who really gives a rats ass?

I don't begrudge Sundin for departing Toronto, in fact I applaud him for doing so! Let's face it, the Leaves are the most successful abortion throughout the entire league! Where else could such an established team toil with mediocrity for five decades? This organization is a joke, but not nearly as much of a joke as the media frenzy for a player who I would consider a very average Captain!

Oh sure Sundin is the all time Loaf's goal scorer and all, but then what more could you expect of a player that has been "hanging" around here so long? Let's all count shall we? Stanley Cups ... ZERO, Conn Smythe's trophies .... ZERO,  Lady Byng .... ZERO, Art Ross Trophy .... Zero and the list goes on!

When you "HANG AROUND" an organization for as long as Sunburn has, barely getting your knuckles scraped then invariably you're going to set a wealth of records! Good Captain .... yes (barely), Great Captain? Sorry that's reserved for the George Armstrongs, Dave Keons' and yes Wendel Clarks' of the world!

As a self employed contractor myself I don't begrudged Sundin for a second to depart the dysfunction in Toronto for the opportunities elsewhere! Hell after eleven years at Spar Aerospace it was very clear to me that my path for development was limited, opportunities for advancement slim, and compensation virtually maxed out as a permanent staffer!

It doesn't take very much instinct to determine that todays organization are about anything BUT team! While wage freezes are the norm, staff downsizing a regular occurance, the corporate geeks are cashing their bonus cheques worth ten times their subordinates annual salaries!

Typically in life I've been raised to be a TEAM player ..... all the way! But when it's evident that there isn't a TEAM to be loyal to, then it's kick ass, take no hostages and sell your skills to the highest bidder as so many of us do!

Sundins NOT the problem here at all, it's just the undeserving media frenzy that he's attracted that is!

You have to agree with most of TP's post. No individual awards except the Mark Messier award for hanging around long enough and the leadership award at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School in Guelph, Ontario.

Sundin was great on a mediocre team which the Leafs were some of the time. He was also outstanding on a bad team which the Leafs were the rest of the time.

But with so little talent around him, he was bound to stand out and he was easy to spot since he was the only player who never had his skates on the wrong feet!

Farewell dear Mats. May you enjoy Pokerstars for years to come.

You and your countrymen Alfredson, who also never won a cup and has learned the art of playing "just short of great" since winning the Calder as a rookie, have many more teams to dismantle... before you sleep.
