In the first period of this game the Red Wings looked like a team in the midst of a losing streak. They were outplayed by the Junior Canadiens and were lucky to escape with a 1-0 deficit. Jason McDonough's powerplay goal was the only one to get by Rob Behling but Jared Docking, while playing shorthanded and Skylar Quinn both had shots ring off the goalpost. They lost one on one battles, were slow on the checking side and made some poor decisions on the powerplay especially when they enjoyed a brief two-man advantage.
Hamilton came out in the second with much more drive and enthusiasm and it showed on the scoresheet as they outscored Toronto 4-1. Nathan Pageau got things rolling as he took a perfect pass from Anthony Ruberto and wired one high past Marc Rinfret. He had his second five minutes in as he took advantage of a big rebound to score his 40th. of the season. The J.C's would get even and again it was on the powerplay as Paul Rodrigues buried a backhander for goal number thirty. Then not to be outdone by Pageau Joey Diamond scored twice within two minutes to give the Wings the upper hand. For his first he worked in from the right side and flipped one home from between the faceoff circles untouched. His second was a wraparound on the powerplay. An excellent period for the home side.
Behling made some superb saves in the third period to maintain the Wings lead at two. A major collision in front of the Toronto net half a minute in resulted in Mike Ball receiving a 5 minute tripping major? and a game misconduct while on the Jeremy Goodwin was tabbed for hooking. Rodrigues went flying into the backboards and had to be attended to but did come back to complete the game. The Wings managed to escape the shorthanded situation with some aggressive and determined play. Captain Josh Vella showed second and third effort as he scored at the 15 minute mark. He was forechecking on a shorthanded play when he stripped the puck from the defenceman, was brought down but got back up and was able to beat Rinfret. Brent McGrail hit the crossbar in the final seconds.
Luke Watson left early in the second with an injury. Bruce Crawford's only on-ice contribution after the first period was to sit out Ball's five minute major at the start of the third. Dillon Branco dressed as the backup goalie tonight.
In other action the vipers were all over the Junior Sabres 9-3. Lukas Krznaric had a four goal night, one shorthanded. Colin Campbell had a goal and five points.
Markham stayed on top of the Central with a shootout victory in Cobourg 4-3 with the big guns Bryan Potts and Giancarlo Iuorio scoring in the shootout.

I was one of a few people who did not get excited by the Crawford aquisition - I dont see him having added anything to the team and what we really needed was good denfencemen.

In the first period his effort level was just a tad above zero. He played the best with McGrail and Dadic/Watson but last night he started with Revell and Hyman and in the second and third it was Revell and the kids.

Bruce doesn't move his feet when he skates...He strides, and just sits at the red line waiting for the puck to come to him..He'd be benched too if I were coach, or any sane coach for that matter..The kid is good, when he wants to be..

Ironically the first goal Joey Diamond, number 39, scored in the second period was announced as number 88 Bruce Crawford, who, of course was nailed to the bench for that and the third period. I guess if you join up the loopps on 39 it becomes 88...sort of..

If he did (Crawford quitting), and the loss of McQuade to Gatineau, does this open up cards for Hamilton to sign/trade players? Also, it was told/rumoured a while ago that Vlad Bessinov also left to go back to Russia?..
With the loss of these players, can Hamilton get anybody to help replace them?

Does this really surprise you that Bruce has yet again quit another team, the people I know and have talked told me point blank that this was the common thing with Bruce when he didnt get his own way. This player was a handfull for Jay and the chargers and from what I heard he left the team on Binner when he was coaching just before he was sent to the Q.Who really won in that trade. This player will never change, to bad.

I am a little perplexed as why you would care if Rick Bince get's calls from players and parents. What do you care? It's none of your business anyway and never will be. As for prolinesuckss, he could not care less, I am sure he is not in the conversations!!!

Don't care. Proline in her own words .. Rick GETS AT LEAST 2 CALLS A WEEK FROM FORMER PLAYERS. Maybe Crawford is one of those callers and then we would know if he quit or not?

If it's true what your saying about Bessenov and Crawford, then the Red Wings only have 16 skaters on their roster. As someone mentioned before, the Wings don't have any more cards but they can use affiliate players.

Let's bury the speculation Bruce is a Red Wing and will be at practice tomorrow for anyone that wants to come and watch, Bruce will be in Wellington Sunday, where this crap started boggles the mind. Enough Said
