I guessed correctly that rules about removing your helmet to fight would be coming. The OHL is the first to act. I would expect the OHA to follow soon.

Removing your opponents' helmet is an interesting twist.

the oha already has penalties for removing your helmet to fight (not sure about suspensions). removing your opponents helmet is a different twist.

The OHA currently has a fine option penalty for removing your own helmet. Basically the team sends in the small fine (I believe $100) and the player plays the next game.

The fine is only $50. What if they changed the rule to read: 1 game suspension or a $1000 fine? Would some teams still pay?

Maybe I am thinking a tad negatively, but if what happened to Don Sanderson does not act as a deterrent then a one game suspension will have zero effect on players wanting to fight without a helmet. The penalty should be at least 5 games if any hockey organization really wants to deter players from fighting with their helmets off. I do not mean to bash the OHL because I think their intentions are right, I just do not think this small of a suspension will have any impact.

First step to receiving help is helping yourself.

I agree, 1 game will not stop it and the players get around by agreeing to knock each others helmet off prior to fighting. Should be 5, no buy-out.

Will someone take a look at the fight at the end of the Milton Georgetown game posted here. I think these two players took each others helmets off.
