With 2:01 to go and Pickering up 5-2, it is now certain that Whitby will host the championship game of the Source For Sports Durham Cup on February 5.
It could go one of two ways, however. If Ajax defeats Pickering in Ajax on Sunday, then Ajax will need only a single point to win the Durham Cup. That means we could theoretically award the Cup to the team that loses the game on the 5th, if the Attack take it to OT or a shootout. In that case, Whitby will need a regulation win to win the Durham Cup.
However, if Pickering wins Sunday, then it will be a straight winner take all final on the 5th, even if Ajax takes a point against Pickering.

Could it get any better? whoever came up up with the durham cup idea (i beleive the guy from pickering) this is great. its basically a winner take all final after all is done.
as for tonight. i feel bad for the other ref with hancock. what a complete joke. i cnt beleive the other ref had to stand there and watch his calls (even though most went against ajax!). he killed the game! Ive seen this before from him. Hancock is useless and should not be in our league.
we'll win the durham cup this year and next year be stronger!

With Pickering's win today in Ajax, the possibility is completely erased of awarding the trophy to the team that loses the game on February 5 in Whitby.
Fans will be treated to a ceremony after the game to award the Source For Sports Durham Cup to the team that wins the game that night, the final and deciding game of the tournament.
WINNER TAKES ALL!!!

By the way, as an aside, congratulations to Pickering on playing the role of spoiler in the Durham Cup so very well. Since being mathematically eliminated, the Panthers have run the table, taking four straight...two against Whitby and now two against Ajax. Throw in the 5-4 OT loss to Ajax that mathematically eliminated them, and Pickering took 9 out of their last 10 tournament points.

this weekend sucked but a winner take all game is pretty damn good for a tournament that has 15 games or something. fridays game was heated. todays game felt like a playoff game. ajax and whitby should have a great one in whitby for the durham cup final with the attack winning it all.

With reference to the cup and it's appearance....Alot of careful thought went into it's design and construction here are the hilites...it has to appear majestic being it stands for OJHL Jr A hockey supremacy in Durham Region. Traditionally it's tapered cylindrical shape (hiway cone)is anchored by the sturdy square base for allowing for winner recognition plaques (taken from sections of boards replaced), capped off with a hockey fashioned crown(inverted helmet), and a flowing wrap of hardened material (practice jersey), the entire cup is custom plated in a gold finish as is typical in so many symbols awarded for supremacy...How'd I do JPM...? I have really no clue what it looks like. Guess I'll see it at the presentation.

The original cup that was purchased and was being constructed for the tournament has been scrapped, and a new one is currently in the works...
This is due to a change in the tournament (nothing involving the competition, results, teams involved, or anything like that) that will be announced this week...
The change was for all the right reasons (that will be clear to everyone once a couple of things are approved)...
Thanks all,
JPM

Are you kidding me? Me pull some strings? I have about as much pull as a one-legged sled dog.
DISCLAIMER #1: I am not prejudiced against one-legged dogs, especially sled dogs. I am sure there are many disabled canines who are warm, affectionate and loving pets.
DISCLAIMER #2: No sled dogs were harmed in trying to prove the validity of the above simile.

Would not like to be Ajax in this game if Whitby gets a big turnout at the gate, it will be loud in the rink for this Cup game and like Whitbys chances to take it!
