It usually goes both ways.

hamilton had 5 on 3 for at least 3 minutes
( there was a double minor)....wings scored but Markham also scored short handed..

They need a better PP.

With six games remaining in the regular season going into tonight's game you might think that the Red Wings would have their lines all formed and gearing up for the playoffs. In fact they find themselves on a downward and very slippery slope and in a race with the Hurricanes to decide who will get home ice advantage in the first round. Tonight only one line remained intact and it was another new combination of Brent McGrail with Nathan Pageau and Anthony Ruberto. Tim Revell who was hardly allowed to see the ice Saturday against the Dukes was double shifted and played both centre and wing. Bruce Crawford after appearing for the warmup was not on the bench. Luke Watson was not dressed. There was no sign of any affiliates, if in fact there are any.

Things started quite brightly for the home team as Ruberto got his 24th. while killing off a penalty. Less than a minute later the Waxers were presented with a two-man advantage and did not let the opportunity slip by as Fiore Lucente tabbed his first of two. Taylor Murphy gave Markham the lead in the middle of the period. 2-1 to the vistors after one period.

Playing with a two-man advantage Pageau popped in number 44 pouncing quickly on a loose puck to beat
Chris Azzano and tie the contest at two. With the Waxers taking three straight quick penalties a good opportunity was there for the Wings to go ahead but a defender fell at the blueline and Kody Vaisnaen scored only his third of the season while playing shorthanded. The Waxers appeared to go ahead 4-2 with one referee signalling a goal on a powerplay, in fact the goal was put on the board but the decision was changed as it was agreed that the puck was kicked in. There would be only one more score in the second as Bryan Potts got number forty-three on the powerplay when it seemed the Wings defence had things under control but turned over the puck. 4-2 Markham after 40 minutes played.

Dillon Branco would probabaly like to have another crack at Lucente's soft shot that beat him in the first minute of the final frame giving the Waxers a three-goal bulge. That would be it for the scoring despite some hair-raising moments around the Waxers net.

Neither powerplay shone despite the over-zealous crew of Messrs. Burchell and Kostyk calling 20+ minor penaties. Wings' Mike Ball took five minors plus a head checking and 10 minute misconduct call. With only fifteen skaters and mostly the same players on the powerplay and killing penalties the Wings for the most part lacked cohesion. Captain Josh Vella soldiered on as usual and McGrail always seemed to have zip. Pageau missed at least three chances that he would normally put away. Overall another frustrating night for the Red Wings fans as the team that promised so much just a few weeks ago now seems to be in disarray.

The Red Wings have now lost 9 of their last 11 games. I've seen teams very late in the season that are in a tail spin gas the coach and bring in a new guy to try to add some spark. Could it happen here?

Management should have focused on getting a top goalie to complement all that offense. Its too late now and its going to be a disappointing end to the season.

this team is a mess for two resons and neither one plays on the team. can anyone guess who? if you said RT and SH then you have nailed it. I bet Crawford wishes that he stayed in Mississauga to finish out the year. what a sad organization this has turned into here in hamilton. Another daddy owner and his puppet ruining things.

Hamilton does have a quality goalie in Branco, they also have quality players. I agree a tuff coach like Rick Bince is the guy that can bring it out. Hamilton you have done so much to mprove your team, bring Rick in get your dressing room back or you will not get past the first round

CHLfanBurlington..I think you are wrong about Branco. The problem is that he is getting very little help form the people in front of him. Behling is steady, goalkeeping is not the problem.

BRING BINNER IN AND SAVE THE SEASON!! Im sure he could bring a couple of his old assisstants from mississauga in for a couple of months and make a real run in the playoffs. He had some good help there.
