A much better effort tonight from goaltending out as the Wings beat Cobourg 5-2.
There was no scoring in the first. Both clubs lost players early to injury with first Cobourg's Matt Diminie going off with a hand injury and then shortly after Noah Schwartz was felled with what looked like a hurt shoulder. Neither player returned. Cougars did have two shots come back off the iron but both Matt Cadieux and Rob Behling made some good stops. The Wings had a short two man advantage late in the period but the Cougars defence held firm.
The second period belonged to the Red Wings as they outscored Cobourg 4-1. Brent McGrail was right in front to beat Cadieux after taking a nice pass from Nathan Pageau. The Cougars again saw a shot rebound off the goalpost before Matt Miller scored with a backhand close in with just over thirteen minutes elapsed to tie the game. But Pageau gave the Wings the lead that they would not relinquish with a powerplay goal, his 46th. of the season as he slipped one through the goalie's legs. After being nailed to the bench for the first period Joey Diamond would score the next two for the Wings less than two minutes apart. The first came from a low, hard shot and then his 40th. was on the powerplay as he took a cross-ice pass and converted with a one-timer. 4-1 Hamilton after two.
The fast-paced third featured just two goals. Matt Singleton scoring for the Cougars just under five minutes in as two Wings' forwards collided inside their own blueline and Singleton scored on the pass from Patrick Jobb. He now is up to 34. McGrail rounded out the scoring, his 25th. overall, as he took a pass from Pageau and made some fancy moves before beating Cadieux.
Hamilton's top line of McGrail, Pageau and Ruberto played with lots of energy and the whole team did the little things right for most of the contest. Behling made some quality saves and the club seemed to exhibit more confidence than of late. The win means the Wings now trail third place Toronto by just one point but they have played one more game.

Other than all the Bince rumours on here the only one I heard at the rink was bringing back Jay Kirk and rather than create a buzz I'm sure that would create a chuckle!
