First off, sorry for my absence for the forum. I am currently moving (which as most of you know is not only a lot of work, but many things we normally have at our finger tips we don't - aka internet, home phone, etc)...
I received a txt from a friend about all the questions, I will give a very quick update, as currently I am in a car dealership waiting room that has an internet terminal... LOL
Here goes...
I will be picking up the Don Sanderson Cup today. This may sound like nothing to some, but this was stress item number one for me. We scrapped the old cup and went with a different design when the meaning of the trophy changed, it will be on display as people arrive tomorrow...
As for TSN & national media coming to the game, I can't say they won't (I contacted all three major sports networks), but I wouldn't doubt it if they don't show... Its awful to say, but if this game happened 2-weeks ago they'd all be there, now it isn't a 'top story'... Just a note, the press release was sent to numerous media outlets - hopefully some choose to cover the event... I was told someone mentioned how I got the Pickering/Toronto marathon on TSN a couple of years ago, perhaps tonight we'll all be plesantly suprised...
I was told about the FAN590 talking alot about Don Sanderson - I hope they do attend. I personally do not have any contacts at the fan - if someone does, please contact me (see below)...
Promotion of the event: I briefly skimmed over the long thread. Yes it needed more promotion. Yes I wish I could have done that, and yes each year it will get better and hopefully bigger and bigger. The timing was very tough for me. Moving for one, a very busy time at work as TradeDeadline and Playoffs are being worked on, and working with Pickering. Some people need to remember that the meaning of this tournament greatly changed suddenly. What started as a bragging rights tournament to boost competition and draw bigger crowds has turned into something much more meaningful. Each year, it will get the time and planning it deserves...
The tournament itself. What started as the Durham Cup, a friendly competition between neighboring towns, on the ice couldn't have been any better. The standings sit at Whitby-10pts, Ajax-10pts, Pickering-9pts. Through 14-of-15-games it comes down to a winner-take-all matchup - it couldn't have worked better. And now, to have this competition act as a memorial for a local player who died playing the sport he loved, its fitting the final is in Whitby. Each year, the tournament and displaying the cup itself will have us all not forgetting Don Sanderson...
Finally; I will be speaking with the family in regards to having a donation area at the game tomorrow night...
If anyone has any questions - anything at all, if its urgent feel free to call me at 416-432-4887. If it can wait for an answer tomorrow, e-mail me at jmccartney@tsn.ca (I'm back in the office tomorrow and will have access to e-mail)...
Thanks all for your interest...
Sorry to everyone who feels not enough was done...
Lets hope for a classic championship final game tomorrow night...
I hope you all can attend...

I have lined up a singer for O Canada for the game. I am not going to announce the name just yet, because I have not confirmed it with the team officials, but she is a local country recording artist, and she is very excited about singing the anthem at the game.

Just spoke to Frank, and confirmed with him that I had found an anthem singer.
Singing the national anthem will be local country recording artist Lorraine Davies. Lorraine is a fantastic singer, a very good friend of mine, and is very excited to sing the anthem at the Fury game.
For more information on Lorraine Davies and her music, visit www.lorrainedavies.com.

Members of the Sanderson Family will be on hand to present the Don Sanderson Cup to the winning franchise...
The actual Don Sanderson Cup has been picked up. There is some more engraving to be done, which we'll take care of in the off-season...
Thanks all,
JPM
PS: I will be back in the office tomorrow morning (here now) so any questions can be directed at my e-mail which I will have access to all day tomorrow...

Actually, the actual PA system we haven't had very many problems with this season. The problems we have had have mostly been with the music, when I-Pods we were using died and such. I think only one night we had a problem with the PA system itself, and that was fixed by the next game.

Bad news...our anthem singer took sick last night and will not be able to sing tonight. We have been actively seeking another singer today, and if worst comes to worst, like I said before, I'll take the mic and sing. What a spectacle that would be!!! Worth the price of admission alone.
